Well, the only reason I'm up this late folks is to post this little thread...
After bowling tonight...my wife & I were sitting at the end of the bar having a few beers. The owner, Bob, comes over to me and says “Terry, you’ll never guess who is sitting over at the other end of the bar there!” I said who? And Bob asked, “You’ve heard of David Stremme, he won the Busch ROTY”? I said “Yeah, I know who David is” & I walked to the opposite corner or the bar & looked, trying not to be too obvious & I said to Bob, “Holy sh*t, that is him!”
David is there with a group of about 15 people & Bob goes down there and says real loud to David..”Hey David, you have to go meet these folks at the other end of the bar...they are big race fans!” Poor David!
So he came over by us & Deni & I shook his hand & told him it was nice to meet him. Deni wished him a Merry Christmas & of course I asked him about racing. I asked him the obvious...you are running the full year with James Finch, are you planning to run any Cup races? David said, “yeah, I’ll be in the running the full season with Yellow Freight as the sponsor and the plan is to run about five Cup races.” David goes on & says that he is under contract with Ganassi of course & that they haven’t decided which cup races they are going to run yet. My wife asked what brought him up to Wisconsin & David said that he used to live in Sussex when he was driving ASA & that he comes up to hang out with some of his buddies in a band that were with him tonight. He mentioned the name of the band twice to me & I had no clue! LOL.
David started to talk about testing at ‘dega & I said, “that’s right, I read that the Busch teams were testing the 2004 body down there." I won’t say exactly what he said though...just in case.
I’m sure I made David feel real wonderful....LOL. I told him I’m embarrassed I didn’t recognize him at first since I meet him in Milwaukee earlier this year & all he said was that happens a lot. I told him that pretty soon that won’t happen!
Hopefully I wasn’t too much of a dork? I didn’t ask for an autograph, just for that reason. But Bob the owner, grabbed a bowling pin that he has had autographed by other NASCAR drivers that have come to his place and asked David to sign it. Bob sponsors a lot of local drivers and one of the racing shows that broadcasts out of Waukesha comes out to Bob’s place to do shows a lot. They also broadcast some shows from the restaurant that my brother’s buddy owns in Franklin. Some of you may have heard of the “LTN Hour”? They broadcast out of the same Waukesha radio station.
