Daytona 500 Qualifying Presented By Kroger Added to 2010 ARCA Race Date at Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Daytona 500 Qualifying Presented By Kroger, which secures the prestigious front row for the 52nd annual Daytona 500, will be part of a tripleheader day of racing on Saturday, Feb. 6, joining the 32nd annual Budweiser Shootout and Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 during Speedweeks 2010.

"We're excited about the new schedule," Daytona International Speedway President Robin Braig said. "By moving Daytona 500 Qualifying Presented By Kroger to Saturday, we are providing even more value to our race fans, who can now enjoy a unique racing tripleheader as well as all the festivities surrounding the Super Bowl the following day."

Daytona 500 Qualifying Presented By Kroger, which is traditionally scheduled on the Sunday prior to the Daytona 500, will kick off activities on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 1:05 p.m. on FOX, followed by the season-opening Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 for the ARCA Racing Series at 4:30 p.m. on SPEED, and the Budweiser Shootout at 8:10 p.m. on FOX.

Tickets for Saturday's tripleheader start at $40 and will include all of the day's events.

During Daytona 500 Qualifying Presented By Kroger, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers will turn two high-speed laps around the historic 2.5-mile tri-oval in search of the pole and outside pole for the Daytona 500.

The 47th annual Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 kicks off the ARCA Racing Series season and showcases the future stars of racing in a 80-lap, 200-mile battle on the 31-degree high banks.

The Budweiser Shootout, the non-points All-Star event that features the top NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers from each manufacturer, will start at 8:10 p.m.

Tickets for all the events are available online at http://www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com/ or by calling 1-800-PITSHOP.

Qualifying for the 500 was on Saturday for many years. I think this is a good move.

Qualifying has to be the most boring parts of the entire Speedweeks @ Daytona. Even the qualifying races there have been diluted since only a handful of cars are eligible to qualify by racing their way in. Likewise the Shootout. I understand why they changed it but I don't like it.

Hasn't Daytona's ARCA race been televised for years?

Yeah, used to be on ESPN right after CBS finished with the Busch Clash. Now it's on SPEED, but SPEED don't give a **** about ARCA. They're not airing the ARCA championship race from Rockingham until 11pm. **** that, I can drive to Rockingham for the race and be back up in DC by then.

But ARCA refuses to talk to Versus or RFD-TV (which is on DirecTV so it would be better than nothing) so we're stuck with 10 races a year on, and only on, SPEED at asinine hours.

SPEED will probably air it, but they'll probably put it on tape delay and air it at Midnight after their crappy NASCAR scream shows are done.

It turns out the main reason for this move is because the next day is the Super Bowl and their 1800 hours of pre-game coverage, so everything has been moved to Saturday. By offering a group ticket like this, they might end up with more people anyway.
