Interesting:
Martin said, "I think we ran six laps without even wearing the sticker off the left front tire. In fact, we could probably run the full 500 miles on the same set of tires.:)eek:)....... The track is smooth, its fast and it's not wearing the tires at all. The grip is obscene,,,,"

That left front isn't working if the sticker is still on after a lap or two. Especially since he says the grip is obscene. If the grip is obscenehow could you run 500 miles??? There's a trade off, grip v long life.

I dont know what this reminds me of more- Indy, or Talladega.....or both combined.

Hmmm....sounds to me like the speeds will be obscene too!

They were running 195, which come race day means a smaller plate.

Probably less tire wear due to the cars handling so well, set ups, and the smooth new surface. Could be they have a new tire compound for this race also.

I supposed Goodyear could roll out a super-soft compound for the race. Would they do so if the cars handle just fine the way the are?

I would think they would have a new tire there, that would be why they are testing with the new surface and all. I'd have to look it up, but I think I read some where that it was going to be a totally different tire this year at Daytona.

"The left side is exactly the same as we've been running at Talladega," Stucker said. "The right side is a derivative that we tested at Talladega. It has some construction characteristics that we felt like would lend itself to Daytona -- understanding, of course, that historically Daytona has had more requirements from a handling perspective just because of the tighter corners.

"We felt [this combination] would lend itself to that type of racing a little bit more and it seems to have proven out that way."
