Daytona Weather

It's Florida in July

There are scattered thunderstorms most days.

No point in worrying about it now. Too early to tell what will happen.

if you want concerns, wonder if the asphalt wil hold up to 1000 miles of racing after being under a foot of water for who knows how many days.

Actually, the track itself was never under water. All the water was in the infield. The asphalt between the track itself and the wall on the backstretch was flooded, but not the track.

Dang! I missed the memo...:D

I do know what you mean.

Well, the backstretch was under water..unless the picture that was online was of the inside wall?

Being a resident of central Florida. I'm not going to complain about any rain. We are still in drought like condition. Our water tables, even with all of the rain we have received lately, are still 36" below normal. So, sorry about the race guys, we need the rain.

Rain in Daytona

Yeah I live in Ocala,Florida which is an hour away from Daytona and I have been watching the weather alot but....Like ya say the weather changes alot here in Florida. I will be at both races in the fanzone rain or shine. I love the races regardless I will bring my pancho:)

might want to take poncho's for you and your friend. <g>

I'm there every year. Made Vegas in March, going to Phoenix in November.
How's that raincoat fittin' these days? :D

As much as I don't like it, I'll take the rain over the earthquakes, massive infernos and mudslides. :)

We got Bristol, Martinsville and Richmond on this side. Which races do you like better, short tracks or boring Auto Club Speedway? :)

We got short tracks here, just not televised. We got dirt tracks.
You ain't scared of a little earthquake are ya, Andy?
I just don't like rain and I sure as heck don't shovel any snow :D

pomona and irwindale were complete washouts. dont forget last year's humiliating auto wash 500.

To perpetuate the east/west argument a little...

As much as I love California (grew up there) there just isn't enough racing. More racers leave California to go racing than vice-versa. So many legendary tracks have closed down out west. The WoO sprints used to make a large swing out there to a large number of tracks, now it's one or two.

The best thing about living out here now, I get to see all these cars and drivers that I could only dream about seeing out there. The PA Posse, the Northeast big block modifieds, the Nascar Whelen modifieds, Moyer, Bloomquist, Moran, McCreadie and an untold number of other east coast drivers.

And in a few regions out this way, there's racing 4 and 5 nights a week. All in all, for the racing if nothing else, I'd take the eastern half of the states any day.

You have some valid points. There have been a lot of track closures lately. It was sad when they closed Saugus Speedway. We used to see a lot of the big guys come there to run. It was a nice flat, short track.
But, there is more to life than auto racing. I would not live anywhere else than here simply for the weather.
It's a tradition for me to fire up the Harley and go for a ride on Christmas day. There is nobody on the road, the sun is shining, the air is crisp and cool. Me and all my closest friends are gearheads. We build classic cars and Harley-Davidsons. My one buddy has 90 Corvettes and Camaros. We go to car and motorcycle shows, we belong to car clubs. We like to drive our cars. We do not like our cars to get salted and rot.
We don't have crappy, rainy, snowy, cold weather. I have about 5 brand new, 10 year old jackets.
My family was not born here but most of us live here now. We're from Chicago, Indiana, Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky and probably a few other states. My dad was the first one to move out west. EVERYBODY came to visit us in the winter.
If you can afford it here, there is no better place to live. We have the best weather. We have beaches, we have snow skiing, we have mountains, deserts, etc. About the only thing we don't have is really good local stock car racing. I like California Speedway, cuz it's all we got. I like Vegas; I'm going to go every year now. We just got season seats at Vegas. I'm going to go to Phoenix every year. I'm going to see how many different tracks I can go to. I can take a few days off and fly anywhere to any track. :)

thoughts on getting the race in tonight?? I'm thinking Yes. The showers move in and out fairly quickly...there should be enough time to dry the track...I hope....

Qualifying rained out,now the question is who steals the Cokezero 400. You know every crew chief is gonna being watching the radar instead of the whole race and someone will steal the thing:mad:

Stays around the same temp all year.

And heres what it says on the link you posted: Snow in San Francisco?Well...not exactly. Last evening there was lightning, thunder and hail, rare by San Francisco standards.
So I quickly grabbed the camera and dashed outside my home...this my winter PaD entry.
It may seem funny to many of you, but weather here is generally non-eventful.
In all my years I have never seen snow in the city...but am always hoping.
If it ever snows, I'll stay close to home and photograph on foot.
Hills, snow and S.F. drivers just don't mix!

Hail is not technicaly snow, now are you going to admit you dont know what your talking about :D

Andy, if you've never been there, you have NO idea what you're talking about.

Oh, but....OOOHHH!! Congratulations on finding the ONE time that white stuff was on the ground in wintertime in over 30 years. What a slueth you are.
