There are only 45 cars entered in the Daytona 500. No matter how many times you say a lot of big name drivers could be going home, it's just not true. All the big names are safe.

We have two duels to get through. The way these guys are racing I wouldn't bet money 43 will start, especially underfunded teams if they get caught up.

Oh, I have a twitter account, it's just that I'm not a very good multi-tasker. I get caught up in reading and forget to pay attention to what's happening on track. Plus, sometimes the tweets come so fast and furious, I get lost as to who is saying what and why am I seeing all the re-tweets of the same info.

Yeah that why you have to pick and choose who you follow. I just follow people related to my drivers, plus a few national media guys. The National media guys will re tweet any important stuff by the ones that I don't follow so I won't miss much.

Agreed. I also have trouble finding people I consider worth following. Most post too much I'm not interested in, either personal information or content outside their area of expertise ('signal to noise ratio').

I just wonder how these start and park teams make it to the track? Seems like they would turn around and head home 20 mins into the trip.
Small underfunded teams have been around Nascar since it started . Pretty much all of the big name teams started like that ,including Hendrick and Childress . Getting into the race is virtually the only way to get noticed by a potential sponsor . Staying home is a guarantee that you will never be successful. I applaud those that make the effort.

How depressing must it be though? Going all the way to the track each week and pulling in before lap 5. It's like driving to the beach, looking at the ocean and then turn around and leave 5 minutes later.

If only sponsors grew on trees .

Creating a list for nascar helps keep things under control. Just put a few of the people you follow into a list and monitor just them during the race.

Hendricks was small, by far from underfunded when he came to NASCAR.

While I understand the start and park theory and why underfunded teams do it, It really puts a bitter taste in my mouth for the driver. I know its not their fault and they are just trying to get their foot in the door and pull sponsors but in my opinion its not good for the sport. You don't see the 49rs come out and just play one quarter ! You don't see the Astros come out and only play half an inning. Only in NASCAR can a team come to a track and expect to only run 1% of the event. Not to mention the fact that that start and park team is taking a spot away that could be taken by a car willing and able to actually compete ! As usual these are simply my opinions and I'm sure ppl will disagree.

I use to do this until I realized I was only getting on Twitter to read Nascar weeks. Now I just ignore twitter 6 days a week.

You must have not watched many Astros games last year.

While I get your point there have been many of other owners in other sports that were accused of doing just enough to put a team on the field only to collect the millions that come with owning a big sport team.

Don't know about that , read that a team can spend $25,000. on 16sets of tires for the 500 race.
That assumes they intend to run that entire race. It's easy to bankroll the race with 30,000 if you're not going to run all of the 500 either.

Pittsburgh Pirates
Pirates
Royals
At one time the Cardinals and Buccaneers in the NFL.

Geez, not only wasn't I the first to go there, I wasn't even third. The point's been made, but the 1980's Atlanta teams. "Go Braves! Take the Falcons with you!"

While all this may be true, how many of those teams have come out expecting to only play a portion of a game? It just doesnt happen in other sports.

Seriously, I think comparisons to team sports are 'apples and oranges'. They all compete head-to-head against a single opponent at a time, not against a field of competitors.

Golf may be a better comparison, but it isn't similar enough either. Say a guy makes the cut on Friday ('qualifies'). He could quit after a couple of holes on Saturday, but it doesn't cost much more to complete the tournament. There's an extra night in a hotel, three or four more meals, maybe an extra day on the rental car. Those expenses to complete the tournament don't compare to how much it costs to complete a race, especially when a driver suspects he'll finish 38th or 40th anyway.

This may not be important, but Apples and Oranges are both fruit that grow on trees.
