Decal to honor Dan Wheldon at 'Dega

It really is rewarding to note that Dan's fatality has had such an impact on all of the racing community. Used to be a death every other week in motorsports. And I agree with SF. Nice Move, NASCAR!
 
Very nice gesture NASCAR!

It is good to see this being done and I'm sure most of the drivers really appreciate that another driver is being recognized even though he wasn't a NASCAR driver. Many of these guys know each other and have competed against one another in some form of racing over the years.
 
I've been wondering if this gesture is unprecedented? I mean, NASCAR putting a decal on all the cars from someone who raced outside of NASCAR.

Classy move, nonetheless.

After Big E, alot of drag racers had a black 3 under their name on the cars or on the dashboard. Many still have them.

Susie Wheldon, the widow of IndyCar driver Dan Wheldon, has released her first statement following the death of her husband on Sunday.

Here are her comments:




"Although the last few days have been unbearable for our family, the overwhelming love and support we have received are rays of sunshine during these dark days. The outpouring of sympathy and condolences has been so comforting, and I want to thank everyone for their kind notes, letters, gifts and flowers.

"Dan touched the lives of many people, and I would like to invite those citizens in our community who knew and loved my husband to attend his funeral service at the First Presbyterian Church of St. Petersburg on Saturday, October 22, at 10 a.m.

"Though we won't be able to fit everyone inside, I know that Dan would have wanted the community to share in the celebration of his life and to grieve his passing. Thank you again. I am forever grateful for your kindness."
