Sources say DEI, Ginn hope to have deal by Indianapolis race
By Marty Smith

Dale Earnhardt, Inc. and Ginn Racing are working on a merger agreement that, if finalized, would meld the two NASCAR organizations into a single company, multiple sources close to negotiations told ESPN.com on Monday.

The deal is not done, but a decision will be made soon. Both organizations hope, sources said, to firm up outstanding details and announce a partnership immediately.

This deal is an elaborate proposition that entails several obstacles, including how best to reduce from six Nextel Cup teams to the maximum four. The obvious answer, sources said, would be to eliminate Ginn's financially-strapped Nos. 13 and 14 teams.

Ginn Racing CEO Jay Frye said Sunday at Chicagoland Speedway that he expects to have the company shored up by the next Nextel Cup race, set for July 29 in Indianapolis. There is no question, Frye said, that Ginn is avidly searching for the best possible way to make the team competitive for 2008, including more Nextel Cup seat time for Regan Smith in either the No. 13 or No. 14 Chevrolet.

Published reports Monday said Joe Gibbs Racing driver Aric Almirola would move to Ginn next season to split time in the No. 01 Chevrolet with Mark Martin.

Attempts made to contact both teams were unsuccessful.

This rumor seems odd.

Rumor has it Kyle Busch is going to the #8.
Truex Jr. is in the #1.
Menard in the #15.
Martin & Almirola as rumored in the #01.
Regan Smith in either the #13 or #14.

Nemecheck and Marlin are most likely gone, but thats five cars right there not including them, so if the rumor is true, someone is the odd man out.

They'd be smart to get rid of Paul Menard. He's not a very good driver. Sorry, I just call it as I see it.

He was just beginning to find his rhythm in Busch last year. Bet you Papa Menard had something to do with moving to the big time.

Menard is a pitiful loser with no skill who could be outdriven by me

As much as it pains me to say it, I think Menard maybe too far gone a driver as well. He's had the same equipment that Truex & Jr's had the past three seasons & he's only been able to post one win. I dunno why that is but I do know that he's got alot of money at his disposal & he ain't gettin the job done in either the Busch or NEXTEL Cup series. Maybe he should start his own NCTS team, he could probably be competitive in that series. As far as Ginn merging with DEI I think it'll help both teams out. They should dump the #13 car immediately & put Nemechek in the 14 cause i'm sure Marlin is ready to hand the wheel over N call it a career. Lets face it, as of right now, DEI is a two car team with Truex & Menard. They add Nemechek next year in the 14 & Martin & whomever split time in the 01. That would make four cars for 08. Plus they could reform DEI Chance 2 & Nemechek & Martin & whoever could run a few Busch series races. I think it would be good.

It would not surprise me to see Menard leave and go to another organization. If he stays there will be a problem as he has big sponsor dollars that DEI would find difficult to let go. Perhaps they would then keep menard and put Regan in th #8. I believe that Regan will survive and be one of the young development drivers.

Truex
Martin and Almirola splitting time
Regan Smith
Unnamed to replace Jr.

Busch's agent is denying they have an agreement with DEI, says they will talk with them and the others this week. Assuming he's right, then DEI would look like this in '08:

Menard takes the spot of the #8 with regards to points, but DEI "sells" the number to Hendrick.

Truex in the #1

Martin, Almirola sharing the #01

Smith in the #13 or #14, which ever one is higher in points.

Budweiser goes to the #9

They all always deny everything. Oh ya, it comes to pass. lol :)

I'm not believing anything until I see or hear it in a press conference.

I really think that Bud is going with Evernham / Kasey. I also think that kyle will end up with his brother at Penske or maybe at Ganassi (with JPM). :D

Well they're now saying that Nemechek and Marlin are both out and the drivers are Almirola and Smith.
Both Marlin and Nemechek are still under contract with Ginn, but have been given permission to explore other opportunities.

Penske has already sais his 3rd driver will be Sam Hornish. If Hornish decides to stay in IRL, then they might go after Kurt.

Last I heard, "the brotherhood" did NOT want to be team mates!!!!

I don't think I would want to be team mates with either of them. I thought Kurt had changed and calmed down till the pit road incident.

Lucky 13: Ginn's loss will be DEI's Gain

By Greg Engle,Editor,Cup Scene Daily,July 19

Could the No.13 be a lucky number for Dale Earnhardt Incorporated?

Already on record as wanting to add a fourth team, DEI may be in a position to buy the team that Ginn Racing officially shut down earlier this week.

If DEI purchases the team, not only would they have a driver to go along with it in veteran Joe Nemechek, but the all important owner points as well. When Ginn announced that they were shuttering the team due to lack of sponsorship, Nemechek and Sterling Marlin were given permission to look for other opportunities.

Marlin is currently in talks to return to his old team, Morgan-McClure Racing.

The No.13 currently sits 34th in owner points, guaranteeing a starting position every week.

Despite reports, according to officials DEI and Ginn Racing have not come to an agreement on a merger of the two organizations.

However that doesn’t mean that DEI hasn’t talked about a purchase of the No.13 team and the points that go along with it, ensuring a starting spot for three of its teams. Currently the No. 15 team with driver Paul Menard is 39th in points and has missed six races so far this season.
