Now that Dale Earnhardt Jr. has sealed his future for the next five years with Hendrick Motorsports beginning next season, there are other issues on the table. For instance, will he be able to take the #8 with him from Dale Earnnhardt Inc.? Earnhardt said Friday after qualifying at Michigan that there has not yet been any communication with DEI about obtaining the #8. "Obviously, we'll see if there's any interest from [team owner] Teresa [Earnhardt] and [DEI president of global operations] Max [Siegel] to do that, but they've probably got to answer a couple more questions of their own to be able to have a good idea how they feel about that," Earnhardt said. "Whether they feel like they have any interest in talking about it, I'm sure that's something Rick [Hendrick] and my sister [Kelley Earnhardt Elledge] would be interested in doing." Siegel said Friday that he would be willing to discuss a transfer of the number. "We're open to talk about anything," Siegel said. "But in order to consider it, there has to be some formal proposal. No one has contacted me. Other than knowing his desire to have the number, no one has approached me with a formal proposal. I'm not going to talk about it until I get one."(ESPN.com)(6-16-2007)

great so if Jr wants the number he needs to put on a tux & go into Teresa's office & ask for it formaly...

Maybe him and Kelly could just suck up to Teresa and get the number. LOL. Guess we all know better than that.

Well the 5 is 10th and the 8 is 14th right now. So it might not be bad for DEI to swap numbers. I wonder if Rick would be willing to give up the #5 for the #8. Then no one loses.

Well doggone !! Sure makes sense to me for DEI to wait until a formal presentation is made.

DEI has no one to discuss anything with regarding the sale of the # 8 until they have a formal request. Dale nor Kelley are not the ones to make the request regards the sale of the #8. Until Max Seigel and/or Teresa Earnhardt are asked by HMS, Rick Hendrick about the possibility of a sale, there is nothing to discuss.
Once a formal request is made, the discussion will begin with b.s., then the talks turn to MONEY !!! There is a place for b.s., even in the most critical negotiations. :)

Here's a thought...Earnhardt, grow up, stop being the spoiled rich kid step-son, suck it up and ask her for the number like a man should!

It is not really his place th ask her anything. The owner has the number not the driver.

Then again why would HMS want the #8. If Lil'E has to go with a new number think of the merchandise sales as Junyer Nation makes the switch. You wouldn't want to take your #8 shirts, hats, flags, etc to a track when your driver is in the #5.
Rick and Lil'E could get rich all over again...

Yep true but if that number goes with Jr the money will still go with him and Hendrick not to DEI.

The number belongs to NASCAR. The money that Junior gets comes from him having the rights to his NAME --- not his number. DEI owned Junior's name until last year, when he got the rights.

But all you get then are the new additional sales. If he changes numbers the 487 million fans of Junyer Nation has to change out all their stuff. Think about those sales. All hats. All shirts. All flags. All coolers. It would be like he was just coming into the sport.
This could well solve the unemployment problem as entire factories are converted to producing #5 Lil'E merchandise. Lil'E merchandise sales to all his fans who have to switch would rival the GNP of some smaller nations.
Besides what happens to the old #8 gear that is left over from the DEI days. Is it pulled and destroyed? Does DEI get the money from those sales since its under their licensing? I suppose that's 1 reason why numbers sell for so much.

Put mears in the 5.
Jr. in the 25 with Bud as a sponsor. that brings back the good old days!

Who "owned" the 5 Pappa Joe, Little Ricky, or Rick? I think Rick needs to keep the 5 and put Jr in it or the 25 and move mears to the 5. Drivers change numbers, so its really no big deal to me.

IF DEI know he wants the #8, They will probably keep it just to piss him off.;)

If DEI keeps the number it will hurt the fans more than anyone even Dale Jr. The fans are the one with all the t-shirts that they paid good money for that will have to go for yard mowing...etc... now.

Papa Joe owned the 25. I think the 5 was Ricky's. He took care of it anyway.
