Actually it's called testing

So Denny crashes in practice, go to the care center and gets released...He has to go to his hauler and wait for an hour to be tested at the care center again:rolleyes:

I think things are going to get out of had shortly
KANSAS CITY, KAN. (AP)

Chase contender Denny Hamlin crashed during testing Thursday at Kansas Speedway and remains under observation after visiting the infield care center.

Hamlin was testing on the repaved surface of the 1.5-mile tri-oval when he hit the wall entering Turn 1. The heaviest damage was to the front right side of his No. 11 Toyota.
Hamlin managed to get his car back to the garage area and then walked to the care center. He emerged a short while later but said he had to return to the center in an hour. NASCAR said he will be reevaluated.
Hamlin is third in the Chase standings entering Sunday's Hollywood Casino 400. He's 15 points behind leader Brad Keselowski and seven behind second-place Jimmie Johnson.

What's the old saying?

Everything in Moderation - or something like that...

I hope that Hambone is OK.

So the good sports slychologist walks up and sez how did that work for you?

Does it go like this?

Denny Hamlin: I'm dizzy, my head hurts, I got my bell rung.
NASCAR: Do you have a concussion?
Denny: No.
NASCAR: Okay. You're cleared to rae.

I don't get it, if they have to big a G LOAD when they hit the wall, it would be common sense to put in more styrofoam.

I always wondered what went on in the in field care center? They come out so fast after a crash. What do they just ask what state they are in and if they get it right they can go?

Because all the drivers are robots. They just make sure all the parts are working properly and send them right back out. How else do you think that the majority of these guys can be so boring and remember all the sponsors to thank. They are still working on fixing the Busch brothers programming but they are getting closer ever year. Sometimes they malfunction and they can't figure it out. The mystery of how Tony Stewarts robot got so fat is still the biggest mystery.

The spotters that witnessed the wreck told Bob Dilner that Denny's wreck was reminiscent of Michael McDowell's infamous Texas qualifying wreck sans the flipping and rolling. And it was loud enough for the people in the garage to wonder WTF had happened.

So 'reports say ' he got his bell rung . What does everyone think ? Let him race ?

Honestly, Hamlin seems to me like he's always just had his "bell rung" but IMO, he is one the cleanest racers out there and usually doesn't do stupid **** on the track. So, if the MD's clear him, let him race.

This is where NASCAR needs to mandate baseline testing twice per year. Without a baseline it makes it difficult to render an accurate assessment.

I enjoyed Bowyers comments on baseline testing. I don't think they can do that with me. The doctors won't be able to figure out what's wrong with me to begin with.

I have worked in healthcare and dealt with sports injuries for years. The problem with concussions is that symptoms can develop hours or days after the initial injury and frequently do not show up on CT. If someone gets knocked out, they are done until a physician clears them. There are some other basic tools we use but nothing is 100%.

That needed to be said again. While subsequent impacts may be less intense the damage done can be greater. It's the cumulative effect that gets you.

That's a bunch of BS. Y'all can tell from my posts that 6 concussions and a fractured neck hasn't affected me at all :D
Incidentally, my orthopedic surgeon was the first to talk to me about finding another gig. I blew him off and raced another 2 years.
