Dick Trickle had plans to run select races in the Midwest this summer, but those plans will be put on a hold. We are told Dick Trickle had to have heart surgery in which 2 stints/shunts were put in. Dick won't be able to wheel a car this season per doctor orders. Dick Trickle has drove a car prepared by Tim Rothe over the last couple a seasons. Dick Trickle has told Tim Rothe not to prepare a car for him as he will be taking this year off. (03-15-08) UPDATE: I (John McKarns) heard the rumor Dick Trickle had a heart attack so I called him tonite. He did not have a heart attack or stroke; however he has had chest pains since late November and they have run various tests. This week he had two stents installed where doctors found some blockage - but he still has chest pains and will have further tests. He is taking a blood thinner and will likely not race this season. Man, that is a shame.

I had the chance to be introduced to Dick Trickle when I was up in Slinger, Wi. back in 2005. He was always one of my favorite drivers back in the 90's because he had a great sense of humor and would always speak his mind.

Dick was like an old friend when I mentioned how I would cheer for him when he drove the Phillips 66 car. His face lit up and he spoke about those days in that race car.

We had a wonderful chat and I had my picture taken with him like we were old buddies.

Dick Trickle is one of the old time racers that has won over a thousand races in his career. He might not have won in Winston Cup but he showed how he could race in the Busch series. I remember attending one race in Charlotte where he almost beat Dale Sr. for a win the the Busch series. Dick was always a gentleman like Mark Martin but he was one driver that was never intimadated by Earnhardt. .

Really tough to read about his heart problems.
I wish him well and I hope to see him back on the race track next year.

I always like him too, he had a great style about him, he was a racers' racer, always seemed to be a gentleman on the track and had some great stories in the interviews.

Not to mention the cigarette lighter installed in his car. :) Gotta admit that Dick was a bit fan of RJ Reynolds.

Some years ago, I was able to shoot the breeze with a driver who used to race against Dick. This guy told me some great stories about Dick and racing in the upper midwest. I know that I would have been very entertained to watch Dick compete against all those guys, winning but having a great time in the infield afterwards. Can I say a six pack just was the beginning of the good times? :)
