... ARCA is going to Rockingham, and it will be LIVE on SPEED. :D

Anyways, it's a shame (looking at recent pictures) about what's happened to North Wilkesboro Speedway.

Apparently, Bruton Smith is just a pompus who only cares about bigtime money (even though they could sell-out a truck race there). That track can be repaved, turned into dirt possibly, and run racing.

Surely, there has to be some driver or somebody big in racing who can buy the track for $12 million.

But who?

Andy What is unique about the layout of the N Wilksboro track?

Overcoming an obstacle
Gordon misses North Wilkesboro. Not for the atmosphere, but for the track.

It wasn't until the speedway's final race in 1996 that he won there.

"That track challenged me even more than Martinsville did," he said. "I wish some of these guys got to run at North Wilkesboro. These guys, they're always talking about how tough Martinsville is. I'm telling you what, North Wilkesboro was tough. I took a lot of pride that I finally won there.

"That place, I just felt like I was lost every time I went there. I had no clue, and then we won a pole in '95 and that meant a lot to me. Then we went there and won the race in '96. It's always one that stands out in my mind as a great accomplishment."

Uphill going one side, downhill going the other.

Lets be realistic, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will never run at Wilkesboro again.

But I still say Bruton Smith is a pompus ass.

For all we know ARCA and CTS could do a pair of companion events, rockingham int he spring and wilkesboro in the fall.

That's what I was talking about. It is uphill on the back and downhill on the front.

Why not. Arca has a nice schedule including a road track and 2 dirt races and adding N. Wilkesboro to it would only make it better.

And what makes NWilkesboro worth $12M. The Rock only sold for $4M and it needs a helluva lot less done to it to put cars out there than NW would. At NW you'd have to repave and do something with the stands and garages. At $12M it's just not a good buy considering what the payback schedule would look like. Hillenburg will be able to realize his $4M if he can keep Arca and land some other gigs. NW has nothing going for it but a dream of what it once was.

OTOH, maybe Smith will move Lowes to NW. That would torque some off. :D

The County’s tax roll lists it as having a value of $4.83 million. A few years back Smith argued with the County that it should only be valued at $2.8 million. A sale somewhere between those two numbers may make it worthwhile for a person to put some money into the track and bring back racing, such as Hillenburg is doing at Rockingham.

I dont think Bruton was the problem with NW not being sold...from what i have heard Bob Bahre wanted the tax value of it, not what it is really worth....now that Bruton owns the full share of it...i see no reason why he wont sell it like he did Rockingham.

I think Bob Bhare was actually the pompus ass in this case.
