ESPN2 had LeBron James' StVincent-StMary(Akron, OH) vs. Oak Hill Academy(VA) high school game on Thursday night. Oak Hill came in ranked #1 in the county. They had lost a total of 3 games in the last 4 years. They have produced several NBA players like Jerry Stackhouse, Rod Strickland and others. LeBron scored 30+ of his teams 65 points and StV won going away 65-45. ESPN had Dick Vitale and Bill Walton heading up the announcing team. Bill Walton had requested the assignment when he found out ESPN was doing the game because he wanted to see LeBron in person. It was a great game until LeBron and his teammates took over midway through the second half. By far the most entertaining high school game I have ever seen. James will skip college and be the first pick in next years NBA draft. He is a 17 year old senior.

I watched bits and pieces of it...

The kid is very mature....Dick Vitale was
drooling all over him...a pretty convincing
win by him and his team...I don't think he
needs 4 years of college, but a couple of
years wouldn't hurt.....maybe he should have
a talk with Allen Iverson...

He scored 31 points, but I was even more impressed with his maturity off the court and some great passing on it. This guy very well could be a top NBA player in 3-5 years.

One NBA GM said last year that there were less than 5 players in the whole NBA that he would not trade for LeBron James right then. He was a high school junior at that point.

Gopherguy...I agree about his maturity and passing. He made some passes that really surprised me. That no look bullet he fired through 3 defenders to set his guy up for a lay-up was unbelievable. I have no idea how he even saw the guy, much less hit him with a perfect pass. Everybody around here wants the Cavs to lose as many games as possible this year to get the best chance possible to draft LeBron in the draft.

Thats the first pass that comes to mind for me too.

If James struggles in the NBA, I think it will be more because he will either surround himself with thugs, or he won't be able to handle the spotlight. I think his on court skills are incredible. Hopefully he'll be able to handle the spotlight,, and stay away from the thugs. He really seems like a good kid. But everyone needs to be patient. In Garnett's first year he averaged 10.4 ponts per game. That is the most by any rookie straight from High School. Its going to take a few years before you can expect much success from James in the NBA.

4x- The rumor was James was dunking on NBA players last season!! I also heard an NBA GM said that. Now I just wonder who did James dunk on and who was the GM :)

I read where he dunked in Jumaine Jones face and even 2-hand-over his head slammed in Chris Mihm's face (not bad considering Mihm is a legitimate 7-footer) in the scrimage he had with the Cavs over the summer. John Lucas was fined $150,000 and suspende for the Cavs first two games this year for that scrimmage, but he said it was worth every penny.

Cavs better hope the Knicks don't "somehow" get the number one pick. ;)

I've been thinking the same thing. Like when MJ took over basketball operations for the Washington Wizards and they mysteriously ended up with the #1 pick. I wonder how that happened?
