I was at the card shop I work at and was told that Sterling Marlin was NOT wearing his HANS device when he wrecked at Kansas but was wearing his Hutchinson device. I tought that you had to wear the HANS device and could wear your hutchensons device if you wanted to? Could anyone explain this to me?

last i heard you could wear either..but you had to wear 1 of the 2....I heard he went back to the hutchins because the hans hurt him to wear after the richmond crash......

The drivers are allowed to use either the HANS or the Hutchens, both are NASCAR approved head and neck restraints. Sterling had used the HANS the previous few races but with the chest injuries it was very uncomfortable and he felt better in the Hutchens at Kansas.

No one knows if one is more effective than the other to the best of my knowledge.

pettyfan, the drivers can wear either one (HANS or Hutchins) but you must wear one of them. NASCAR did not specify one over the other, but you have to wear a head and neck restraint device to drive. Tony Stewart fought it to the bitter end, but NASCAR said wear one or don't drive.

Ok I diden't know cause it seems like every week Nascar is makeing up new rules on that stuff

This was done last year and has not changed. And NASCAR won't change this rule. It is all about the safety of the driver. And preventing severe injury to the neck and brain due to whiplash effect.
