Did they ever find Derrick Cope?

i know it was hilarious, but derrick cope is a jackass, how are you gonna dissapear when there is a race to finish, but then again he might have passed out or something hahah
 
He was probably looking for that lotion to put on his hair. :)
 
Derick is beyond the age where it was wayyyyy past his bedtime.
 
Well, if he's anything like me, any age over 40 would do it!!! LOL
 
I've just been following racing for about 5 years and since I've got a knowledgable group here - HOW IN THE WORLD DID DERRICK COPE EVER WIN THE DAYTONA 500????????? There's got to be a story there!
 
GoDJ, Derrick "won" the 1990 500 by being in 2nd place when Big E cut a tire in Turn 3 on the last lap. Dale still finished 5th with a shredded tire --- which is mounted and on display at RCR.

At one point in that race, Dale had a 45 second lead on the field.
 
I just found out that it was said in the pits that Derrick was in the bathroom. Don't know why it took him so long, but when he came out and because the car had been pulled from the lineup, he wasn't allowed back into the race. :eek:

Man, that's crazy! I'm just as surprised that he was in 2nd. :growl:

He also won at Dover later in the year...no restrictor plate there, Dover is a nice track to be able to say you've won at!
 
Talked to a team member who said that the car was so bad even Derrick would not drive it!
