Did you know

Now that you mention it, I don't recall hearing the clowns going on about yellow rookie stripes or no one drafting with rookies or rookies making rookie mistakes - still not sure what it is when a veteran makes the exact same mistake.

I'm not sure about Keselowski's status other than having been brought down a peg or two early on in the race.

I thought Robert Richardson had a rookie stripe. Maybe I saw it wrong. But he'd have to be a rookie because very few people had heard of him. I guess he won't run the whole year.

No ROTY contenders is a by-product of the Nationwide series becoming Cup Lite. The Cup drivers have the good rides there and any NNS newcomers have to latch one with one of these midpack teams. It's hard to get noticed unless you can mix it up with Cup guys. But only a few do.

Maybe the sign of the times with the economy? I wouldn't think a big money corporation is going to pump that kind of money into an unknown. I'm a little behind but there are no young stud drivers that come to my mind. Anyone know who is hot out there that teams are looking at?

Regarding Richardson......Does anybody know if you have to preregister that you intend to run for rookie of the year? I doubt that he knew two weeks ago.

I think that one has to register somehow in this category to be able to run for ROY. Maybe they have to make it known that they will be running the entire season, or at least try to make every race.

....and I serously doubt someone like Richardson is going to run full season.

There's no real point in having a rookie class just for the sake of having rookies in the field. It's probably more of a case of the established teams being happy with the talent that they have and the availability of veteran drivers to fill open slots. The winner of this year's Daytona 500, after all, was nearly out of a ride at the end of last season. Putting a rookie in a start 'n park car would probably do his career more harm than good.

Not much of a Rookie Of The Year class

Car#-Driver, Races Attempted, Races Run, Points
#37-Kevin Conway, 0, 0, 0 [not in top-35 in owners pts]
#46-Terry Cook, 0, 0, 0 [not in top-35 in owners pts]
(thru 1-8-2010)

NOTE: #12-Brad Keselowski ran over seven Sprint Cup races in 2009 and will not be eligible in 2010 for rookie of the year

SEVEN races is the most a driver can race in ONE season and still run for ROTY
