Digital Voice Recorders?

I want to buy what I think you call a "Digital Voice Recorder"...like a hand held tape recorder you would use to tape lectures, etc. but an updated digital one. I have a colleague who has a small one she records observation notes on and transcribes them later (which seems to me to be easier than taking hand written anecdotals all day long). Does anyone have anything like this? I'd like to invest in a good one, small, with a long recording time, and most importantly that I can record, stop and record more later without it recording over the first 'message.' ...not sure if I'm making myself clear, but any input would be appreciated, thanks :)

I have an Olympus one that I love. Plenty of storage @ 16 hrs on top quality (I think). (always check the best quality record time, "low quality" generally means garbage)

The best thing about it is the battery comartment pulls off to reveal a USB plug, which you just pop into the PC, and BINGO, there are your files as mp3s (or maybe wma...)! No extra software is required, and super easy file transfer.

This was key for me since I had one that before that required software and a special cable etc... it was such a pain to use, I never did...

Do a search on Circuitcity.com for:
Olympus WS-311M

about 100 bucks, but worth every penny IMO.

Also, if you happen to have an Ipod, I know there are several microphones you can add to one of those that get decent reviews.
