Surprised ?? Another weekend with controversy and inconsistency although
NASCAR and Mr. Helton have admitted (gasp) there was a mistake of the call on Sunday where Jeff Gordon was refused the race lead while Kurt Busch, Burton and Rudd got thier lap back. But when will NASCAR make a decsion on Tony Stewart and Joe Gibbs Racing??

Phase one of the controversial weekend began when Brian Vickers was black flagged for passing on the inside on a restart. Had Vickers dropped behind Blount after his evasive move on the restart, then maade the pass, there would have been no black flag. Under the circumstances, it was a correct call.

As for Gordon, it was a screw up, plain and simple. NASCAR did acknowledge thier mistake two days later, but the call should never have been subject to interpretation at the time of the incident.

And now we go to the Stewart-Gibbs thing. Joe Gibbs has stated they were wrong, Stewart says he has nothing to do with the car other than to drive it. NASCAR said it was an illegal car and impounded it. Previous entries found to be illegal were penalized high dollars and had points taken away from both the team and driver. Stewart and Gibbs should receive no less than the $25,000 fine (and that is cheap) plus a minimum loss of twenty-five points as were imposed against Roush, Hendrick-Gordon and Penske racing teams in 2002.

Is NASCAR now toying with the precedent established last year when various teams were fines and loss of points for infractions found during pre-race inspections ?? Say it ain't so !!! Give us reason to think NASCAR is going to continue to do the right thing.

Maybe I am gettting old but after 44 years as a NASCAR loyalist, I am slowly running out of patience with the founding organization. :salute:

I am still trying to figure out why Nascar impounded the car versus letting them make the corrections...

Excactly. As inconsistent as Nascar as been in recent memory, why in the @#$% did Helton admit he 'made a mistake' now(regarding the Gordon-Kenseth snafu)?

The whole thing is ridiculous and just further undermines Nascar's credibility, imo. As to whether the lapback-gate was right or wrong is totally irrelevent.Nascar's inconsitent make-em-up as you go rules are hard to watch.

Helton:put the damn rules in writing, post them and go by them. For every team and driver out there.Period.
