Piss me off. Took the truck to the shop to get the studded tires off (live in the frozen North) and everything was fine. Wife takes the truck on a hr drive out of town and it starts to shake. (Im at work).

She calls a tow service as my infant is in the car with her. Tow truck driver says the wheel nuts are sheared off. Now my wife is no dummy, but she is breast feeding and it is at night so she takes the driver at his word. The truck is towed back to our hometown (for free as we have CAA-Canadian version of AAA).

Truck is dropped back off at the shop where the tire work was done. I call the shop tell him what the driver said. Manager calls me and says nothing wrong with the wheel studs they are all there. They re-balance the tires for free. I apologize and the manager says that "it must have been a slow night and the driver wanted a long tow".

Im angry. Wife raged at CAA, as my infant was put through a LOONG ordeal for nothing.

PITA for sure but at least the tow was free if that's any consolation. We have AAA and the few times we've called we haven't been impressed with the drivers knowledge of anything related to cars.

They could lose their license for crap like that here. Report'em.

I make a point of getting driver details whenever I have a tow. If I'm happy with the service, I write a recommendation. If not ..... but I always get those details.

Oh she did. CAA is not happy. Im just glad we didnt have to pay for the tow
Report him to the local licensing agency. You should be able to find out where since you drive a taxi.

He's a tow truck driver, not a traveling mechanic. From our experiences with AAA drivers I prefer they tow the vehicle to the repairer of my choice rather than their attempting to "fix'' it at night on the side of a road. My 2¢

The tow is between CAA and their employer or contract employee. CAA might not be happy but the driver did his job.

Acceptable if it is something hard to diagnosis. NOT hard to tell all the wheel nuts are there. he flat out lied to my wife
