i know in oklahoma its a big deal what they said and i know in texas they are trashin there music, whats yalls opinion? i cant exactly quote them but it was like im ashamed that the president is from texas like us, i dont know maybe some oen can find exact quotes.

I think it is great that we live in a country where they are free to say things like that. I think it is even better that we live in a country where people are free to not support such crap by buying their music or playing it on the radio. People have the right to free speech. But there are still consequences when you use that right unwisely.

NASHVILLE, Tennessee - The Dixie Chicks are drawing harsh words from country music fans for remarks singer Natalie Maines made about President George W. Bush during a recent performance in London.

Maines told the audience earlier this week, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."

Story.

Other news reports.

The right to free speech is countered by your right not to listen. If someone says something you don't agree with, don't just badmouth the person. They have the right to say it, just as you have the right to give your own opinion, and not support the person you disagree with.

Yep true Stridsberry, but when you bad mouth your own president in another country, i feel that is going way too far. Why is it is seems the only people that really trash Bush are either in the music industry or Hollywood? There have been a few sports figures that have done it too, but overall it seems to be the entertainment industry. My 2 cents on this : these people are either ignorant to the situation at hand or are just jumping on the bandwagon "because it is the cool thing to do". Makes me want to puke, i am all for free speech ,but they have crossed the line.... and so has Clinton and Carter!

If they can't support our president, send 'em to Afganistan. See how they like it there. Maybe there will appriecate how good they have it here.

if your plummer, doctor, local store owner, lawyer, or anyone else you deal with, told you they felt the same way, would you stop dealing with them?

More than likely, Yes I would.

Yeah, I think I would. I know everyone is intitled to their opinion, and freedom of speech is great, but right now we need to be a united country. We need to stand together, and for people in the entertainment industry to put down The President of The United States is horrible. It's all these rich people that are making these comments...well, you know what you have the money, move. I never cared much for the dixie chicks, now I out and out don't like them.

Natalie Maines runs her mouth then thinks people are going to forget what she said? NOT me!

NASHVILLE, Tennessee - The Dixie Chicks Natalie Maines has apologized to President George W. Bush for am anti-war comment insult she made at a London concert.

"As a concerned American citizen, I apologize to President Bush because my remark was disrespectful," the singer said Friday in a statement. "I feel that whoever holds that office should be treated with the utmost respect."

Hmmm. She just learned this? :dual9mm:

Playing to the crowd overseas in order to get applause and look cool.

When it came back and bit her in the butt, now she is remorseful.

Hypocrites!

I don't really believe that she is sorry for what she really believes. The resulting backlash is what she is sorry about.

G.

I think hse realized that ppl aren't going to like what she said and now she hopes to do some damage control... well, i say the damage is already done.. now i'm glad i don't own a single CD :dual9mm:

What she's sorry about is that radio stations aren't giving them airplay and people are trying to get refunds for concert tickets.....

I think it's too late for that! NOW she's sorry that she's blown her future career. Boo Hoo. She only apologized because of the back lash.
Lesson learned by Ms Maines.

They have the right to say what they want. But what you say can come back and bite you in the butt. Saddam has murered up to one million of his own men, women and children. I take it that the D. Chicks thinks that's cool. And that's my opinion. Never was a big fan of Dixie Chicks anyway. :D

I have never liked the "Two Chicks and a Pig". I think the backlash they are getting is GREAT! Hopefully now we won't have every other song on the radio from them. I guess she never heard of Jane Fonda and Vietnam and what that did to her career.

Everybody has a right to their opinion but along with that comes the responsibility for voicing that opinion.

Hey Paul, thanks for pointing that out. I didn't notice. I haven't posted in a while so I didn't pay attention to my count.

Every country mucis station has banned them and all the stores has pulled their cds off the shelves so I say screw them they messed up

While I don't necessarily agree completely with what Maines said or with the forum in which it was said, I will say this...........I guess that NONE of you who post here have ever said anything that you have regretted saying. Be it out of frustration, anger, stupidity, etc. whatever the case may be. She has and will continue to learn the error of the words that she has spoken, although she has the right to say what she feels. She has made a public apology.

So true, Fergy........bottom line......it's all about the Benjamins.

She made a statement that was offensive to many and an insult to the President of the United States. Who the hell is she? Publicity driven public apology. Save it! It's to late!!!

Have I ever said anything I regret? Sure did. And I had to live with any repercussions it brought.

I take issue with her remarks, but I defend her right to say what she thinks.
She has to cope with the consequences, not me.

I, too, have said things I've regretted and wished I'd never said.

Thanks, TRL. That was what I was trying to convey, I guess I just didn't say it the right way.

She has the right, as an American, to say whatever she wants to.

You are correct but I assure you she will think twice before exercising her US given right again.

Yeh she has a right to say what she wants, but it is what she said that has caused so many problems. Her statement pretty much was an act of treason , this is the President of the United States we are talking about folks....not some company, some person in the entertainment industry or a personal friend she is talking about. This is the leader of her country, our country.......big difference when you condem or insult the president. What she did was totally wrong, i hope her career goes down the tubes and never is resurected. Everyone has the right to free speech, but when you say something like that you are not only insulting the President , but insulting and condeming your own country!!
