If he runs a full schedule, do you think he should or do you think he should just run a short schedule?

I think he is a point where he needs to get while he is still on top. We do not need another D.W.

Martin said it himself, he will only run a limited schedule, and he will retire when he feels like it, i mean cant a man do what he wants? leave it alone i'd say.

And what do you mean when you said "We do not need another D.W"?

That's kinda harsh there dude.

I think the way he is starting out he will run the entire season.

It seems that there are people who think that the entire season is based on what happens after the first race or two. How many people would have said that Tony Stewart would have won his first championship after finishing 43rd in the Daytona 500? Few would have even given him a chance, yet that's what happened. The same can be said about the driver who wins the Daytona 500. Take for instance one of our most beloved drivers of late, Ward Burton. He won that race in 2002 and finished the year in 25th place in the points. Yeah, you can say that the teams aren't the same, but stop to think, Mark is now driving the car that Joe Nemechek drove for some time. Joe is no champion in the Cup series, but he's still no slouch when it comes to drivers.

I'm sure that Mark will sit down and think about what his future is, and with a week off and him sitting on top of the points, I'm sure he will have second or third thoughts about what he wants to do. If he does in fact decide that he will run the entire season in the Cup series (I say run instead of compete) it won't be because he wants to be instead because he's presured to do so. So in that vein, I whole heartedly believe that Mark will only run a limited schedule as originally planned.

It is still too early to guess whether or not he will run a full schedule. At this point I would take him at his word. However, if he is still leading in points after 4 races it becomes a little more difficult for him. Especially if he has a fairly nice lead over the others in the top 10.

My words exactly CB :)

I think as long as he is in contention to win the Championship, he'll continue to race (this season and beyond).

Same here Bucky.

He's said basicly the same thing the past few years, so we will just have to wait and see.

As of now Mark is supposed to sit the COT race at Bristol, if he is still leading in the points at that time i think it will be a different story. It has been only 2 races, so a season can't be decided on that. Personally i am sick and tired of the Mark Martin saga, if he retired from Cup and went to CTS and raced full time i wouldn't be upset.

You have to admit it makes for good theater. The fans keep tuning in to catch the next episode in the Will Mark Martin Ever Retire soap opera. The fact that he's done well only adds to the fire. NASCAR couldn't have drafted a better story line if they had tried.

I wonder what Rusty Wallace is thinking of the Martin Saga.

Rusty has a new career.....Broadcasting,,,,,as well as coaching Steven.

Rusty sucks as a broadcaster. He talks like someone ripped his balls off.

I think that's a vote for the 3rd option.

BTW, I voted no.

UPDATE: Mark Martin said on ESPN's NASCAR Now that he is not interested in running a full-schedule this season, is doing what he wants to do [running a partial schedule] and thrilled to be working with Regan Smith [who will run the #01 Chevy when Martin steps out]. Martin has no plans on changing his Nextel Cup schedule and says the best part of not running a full schedule is not worrying about those 'stinking' points. Martin however, would not say there is a zero percent chance he will not running a full schedule, but has no plans to.(ESPN's NASCAR Now)(3-6-2007)

YEE HAW !!!!!!!!!!!!!:einstein:

You got that right !!!!!! Will someone please tell me how a a driver can, according to Rusty, "drive his brains out "????????

Between Rusty's constant comments of "he's driving his guts out" and / or "he's driving his brains out", I think the only thing getting exercise is his mouth and the brain part already left. Rusty might try devoting full time to coaching his son.
After two broadcasts of Rusty, Mike and Darrell are sounding just a tad better, but not much. Aren't there any other announcers who can tell the saga as it unfolds without the "manly" comment, "driving his guts out", commentary ??

Even Jerry Punch sounded like a phoney attempting to stir excitement with the viewing audience with his constant glorification of Juan Pablo Montoya.

Not that praising Montoya and his efforts wasn't deserved.
The problem being, Punch is bringing back the memories of his continous flow of praise at a time when Punch had DE walking on water or sitting at the right hand of God.

Is it me ? Am I too grouchy ?? To ...........what ?? It just seems to me announcers spenmd more and more time trying harder and harder to make chicken salad out of chicken crap.

Not every race has an exciting finish, but people who have watched them over the years find there is always something of interest going on somewhere in the field.
One problem is, most people watche the front of the field and few understand what is going on elsewhere, thus the announcers must create excitement for those with tunnel vision and many times, it still doesn't work !!!!!!

Maybe too many people do not really understand the concept of racing beyond who finished first. :bounce:

Ding, ding, ding ---- we have a winner.

I can't believe how quickly I tired of Rusty's voice.

It just seems to me announcers spend more and more time trying harder and harder to make chicken salad out of chicken crap.

Ain't it the truth. *sigh*

Oh like DW squeaky ass voice is pleasant to listen to...Boogity my ass. BTW this is a MM flaming thread not a Rusty

I agree about DW.

Smith expects Martin to stay in ride UPDATE Martin says NO..again: Regan Smith is more than an interested third party when it comes to whether Nextel Cup points leader Mark Martin will stick to his plan to run a part-time schedule. He's the driver ready to replace Martin in the #01 U.S. Army Chevy when the series moves to Bristol Motor Speedway on March 25. "When I go to Las Vegas [next week] I might put a couple of dollars on it," Smith said before practice for Sunday's Busch Series race at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. "I'm sure it's going to be on the board soon. It's a pretty big story. "I don't know what the odds are. All I can say is if I was in his shoes and leading the points after Atlanta it would be tough for me as a driver to get out of the car." Either way, Smith will have a ride at Bristol. Owners Jay Frye and Bobby Ginn have promised to put him in a fourth car, the #39, if Martin has a change of heart. They've even discussed using his Busch Series crew chief to run the show. Martin, off to the best start in his Cup career with a second in the Daytona 500 and fifth last week at California, has been adamant that he won't change his mind. He insists he's happy with the part-time schedule and that he's looking forward to having an off weekend. He also has a history of changing his mind. He extended his 2005 retirement tour at Roush Fenway Racing into 2006 after owner Jack Roush lost Kurt Busch to Penske Racing. Smith has run through all the scenarios, including what would happen if the #01 was in the top 12 in points with him and Martin splitting the schedule. "How cool would that be?" Smith said. "Maybe it would put some pressure on NASCAR to make a decision." There would be no decision. The way the Chase for the Nextel Cup is set up the top 12 in driver points make the field. Smith and Martin could run the car for the owner's title, but not the overall championship.(more at ESPN.com), Ginn said on ESPN2's NASCAR Now show Friday that he thinks it is 50-50 if Martin races at Bristol.(3-3-2007) UPDATE: Mark Martin said on ESPN's NASCAR Now that he is not interested in running a full-schedule this season, is doing what he wants to do [running a partial schedule] and thrilled to be working with Regan Smith [who will run the #01 Chevy when Martin steps out]. HOT DOG !!!!!! Way to go Bucky. You got it right !!!!!!

MM thread ??? Well, it started off that way until the comment about Rusty and his being an "announcer", ruffled my feathers.

As for DW and the "boogity", feel compelled to mention in all the years of watching races, the time just as the cars come out of the third turn and before Larry McReynolds has a chance to say, "I'll say it one more time guys, pull those straps up tight", followed by Dufus Walmouth and his imbilcelic chanting of "boogity" etc., the volume is over ruled by the mute button.

As for the MM thread, whatever Mark chooses to do is alright as long as he isn't making a fool of himself by over staying his ability to drive competitively.
