There must be two engines involved here, if the new engine that nascar helped dodge design is bared what engine are they runnin?
Where did this other engine come from? I got lost somewhere in here.

EJL,

It's my understanding that Mopar went lock stock and barrel in a wide bore short stroke direction. Now they need to run a smaller bore and longer stroke. Which they can do with the current configuration, but with more of a weight penality than anticipated. With the new limits, they probably need to squeeze the bore spacing a bit closer together. This would make it a new configuration. Impacts crank and cam length, not to mention intake, pan etc. Throw away all your old stuf..I'd get rid of those skirts as well for the Cup environment. Just my opinion.

Again, this is my understanding of where they want to go. I don't spend a lot of time on Mopar engines

Windsor as I understand it the new design engine was a high rpm engine with the wide spacing and was heavier for this reason. Now this engine is banned, where did the replacement engine come from? Supposedly the reason chry left years ago was they didn't have a competeive engine. (there words)

...I should really talk to my Mopar buddies on this, but I believe the CTS block....and W8 heads????

I believe that Chrysler left because they were kicked out of nascar because the Hemi engine was so much more powerful than any engine at that time!

Hopefully we won't have a repeat of that anytime soon! I like Dodge and I want them to be in Nascar for a long long time! I hope nascar doesnt tick Dodge off once again!

Chry wasn't kicked out of nascar. The hemi was a dead horse just like the 427 blocks ford and chevy were using. The 358cu became the engine of nascar and chry said they couldn't be competive. This was about the same time chry went to front wheel drive and started using foreign engine-trans comb.

If they can't produce their own engine/car to race,I don't care if they get ticked. I damn sure don't see kissing their a$$.

I do believe that Richard Petty went drag racing the year that Nascar outlawed the Hemi engine! I would say that Dodge was pretty much kicked out of Nascar for that year???? Until they came up with a new engine combo!

ts1,

I think, you're thinking of...mmm...'65(?), when it was still the "Race" Hemi and NOT the "Street" Hemi. The Hemi came back, but was in fact a "production" street engine per NASCAR sales quotas.
