Does it bother anyone else...

When the announce team promotes the "Big One". Then when it happens and a driver seems injured they become solemn and concerned all the sudden.

I swear it seemed like Bestwick was nearly salivating at the prospect of a big wreck.

I wouldnt say they promote it... more just keep mentioning that it looms around any given corner. Also wrecks can be exciting, injuries not so much.

Of course they're promoting it. It's their jobs to keep the viewers watching and reminding people of the possibility of the "Big One" helps do that. There's also little else to talk about at these plate races lately so I guess I can't blame them.

I found it interesting at the end of yesterday's Nationwide race that the announcers were amazed that there wasn't a wreck during the G/W/C ending of the race.

If that's what the "professionals" think is to be expected of restrictor plate racing, why are they even putting the cars on the track ?

Good question. The answer? Because that is pretty much all that is to be expected of RP racing. That and the potential for a surprise winner, which is the only thing I like about it. If not for that, I wouldn't even watch Daytona and Talladega.

So to answer your question, OP, does it bother me? Yeah. Does it surprise me? Nope.

I didn't think people watched racing "just for the crashes", but after seeing more than one post here with people basically admitting to that, I guess the announcers are just playing up what a big percentage of NASCAR fans watch NASCAR for.

I think "the Big one" goes along with the whole crap shoot atmosphere plate races have. So many R.P. races are won with luck instead of skill. Cars running in the back remind me of gamblers waiting a certain time until the machine is ready to jackpot and then going for it.

Well the Daytona 500 is the most watched Nascar race of the year.. I think alot of that does have to do with the big one or really just excitement. How many times at like Bristol does the crowd erupt when there is a fight after the race? Alot.. The problem with RP races is without the big one as of late, the races have been pretty boring.

I think they're just waiting for the inevitable. A very clean race like the one last night is rare at Daytona/Talladega. Ironically enough, the last two caution-free Cup races were at Talladega.

there is a good chance to go caution free today Kyle is up front and Kasey is back some.:sarcasm:

I wouldn't call that luck...I would call it smart racing. A driver that runs around in the back and doesn't use their car up or get into crashes, and then when the time is right makes their move to the front to win the race is a lot smarter and skilled then a driver that leads most of the laps and uses their car up and then starts falling back before the finish line.

Yes, it bothers me.

However, it doesn't bother me as much as NASCAR continuing to sanction crap-shoot races where the "Big One" is a (the?) primary attraction.

didn't happen last night to front row Pastrana when it was "go time". Worked for Regan and Gilliland at Dega.

I like Pastrana, but he still has some learning to do before he will be a good driver. He screwed up last night.

"If"?
Might as well make it a drinking game.
Shot/chug when they say it, 3 when it happens.
Alternate game: drink if they throw a yellow during commercial break, 3 if it's a "big one".

I'd die of alcohol overdose. You'd be able drain my blood and slap an American Ethanol sticker on it afterwards.

I know they have to mention the fact that the RP races have big wrecks, but last night they just wouldn't shut up about it.

Mention it and move on.

Anyway here's to hoping that tonight's race is a good'un.

Other side of the coin, what are they going to show in the media about the N'wide race last night. The wreck will be shown and they might take a quick shot of Kenseth in victory lane. Wrecks and racing are what they show. despite the constant whine, daytona and Dega aren't going anywhere. Look at all the free publicity the season opening N'wide race at Daytona got for the big one. they had that wreck worldwide all week in the news. there won't be hardly anything in the media about the N'wide race this week. The wreck wasn't spectacular, nobody was on their lid or on fire.
