Nextel Asks NASCAR Fans to Help Answer the Call for Those Who Have Answered the Call; 2004 Donate A Phone Campaign Begins at The UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 in Las Vegas - Supporting Our Troops Has Never Been Easier: Nextel Communications Inc. (NASDAQ:NXTL) is putting the call out to NASCAR® fans to donate their old wireless phones to support the American Red Cross Armed Forces Emergency Services, beginning at the March 7 UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. In 2003, Nextel raised nearly $400,000 for the American Red Cross Armed Forces Emergency Services through the American Red Cross DONATE A PHONE® program, as well as other fundraising efforts. This year, Nextel hopes NASCAR fans across the country will help the company surpass that goal by simply donating their old wireless phones from any manufacturer, in any condition, at NASCAR Nextel Cup Series™ races, at any of Nextel's 500 retail stores, or through www.nextelbuyback.com. Net proceeds of the resale value from the recycling of the phones, which averages $1.70 for each phone collected, are directed to the Armed Forces Emergency Services program and help U.S. service men and women stay connected with their loved ones back home.

It's good publicity for them. It makes everyone feel good. It's an effort to help people dispose of these phones properly instead of the landfills. And, at a buck seventy there could be some cash made for the troops.

There are MANY organizations that deserve the donations more than this "Publicity" thing for Nextel....Red Cross for example. IMHO

This is a good thing. :)

I see it as a good thing too. I don't understand why the hoopla about Nextel getting a little publicity out it either........many companies have similar drives for donations to help organizations (or, in this case, the Armed Services) and got their fair share of publicity too. It actually perks up my thinking of Nextel......their coverage in Southern California sure hasn't. :)

think that is a great idea........I have two cell phones I could donate... :)

If it makes a person feel better, by all means go for it. I'd rather send a $10 check, but that's just me.

Send them 10 bucks and donate your old phone too. :D

But I don't own a cell phone. Never have, never will. If I want to be found those I wish to speak with will know how to get me. If I want to not be found I don't have to worry about the blamed thing going off. It's a beautiful concept.

I think this is a good idea also....can't hurt Nascar's image and it benefits a good cause....

LOL Possum, you should just like my uncle...he hated cell phones with a passion!

well I got 5 or six of them things packed away some where, just moved but packed them cause I didn't want to throw them away. But the gotta take threm all, chargers, 12v chargers headsets everything. LOL Guess I'll take them to Fontana.

I only have my one cell phone, but I think it is a good idea. If I had some old ones layin' around, I wouldn't hesitate to give them to such a good cause.
