SAN DIEGO (AP)—Don Coryell, the innovative coach whose Air Coryell offense produced some of the most dynamic passing attacks in NFL history, has died. He was 85.

The San Diego Chargers confirmed Coryell died Thursday at Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, just outside of San Diego. The team did not release the cause of death, but Coryell had been in poor health for some time.

rip don coryell

i imagine all football fans here remember air coryelll and the chargers with fouts throwing to winslow or joiner on what seemed like half (or more) of the plays in their games. long, short, everywhere on the field, fouts could and would throw the ball anywhere and winslow and joiner made tons of great catches. it certainly was fun to watch for the fans and his players loved playing for him. he was a coach that really deserved the tag of someone that changed how the game was played. it's too bad the chargers never won a super bowl while he was their coach.

Thoughts and prayers going out to him and his family.

He was offensive wizard. Those teams were always fun to watch.

Yeh Fouts was awesome to watch in that offense, didn't he have some kind of record for awhile for consecutive 300yd passing games?
