Donny Schatz won his first Gold Cup Race of Champions A-feature Saturday night. Schatz led all 40 laps to score his second win of the season and the $25,000 prize.

A-main

Lap 1—As the field came down to the green flag, Tim Kaeding got into the frontstretch wall and upside down, collecting Jonathan Allard. No injuries. Both Kaeding and Allard pitted for repairs, but only Allard was able to restart. Steve Kinser went to the work area as well under the red. Complete restart.

Lap 1—Donny Schatz got the jump off of turn 4 to take the lead.

Lap 2—Joey Saldana passed Jason Sides for 4th on the top exiting turn 4

Lap 6—Traffic. Donny Schatz’s lead a half straightaway over Mark Kinser

Lap 8—Mark Kinser (2nd at the time) attempted to split the lapped cars of Roger Crockett and Brandon Wimmer, but tangled with Wimmer and spun in turn 2

Lap 9—Tim Shaffer passed Stephen Allard for 7th low exiting turn 4

Lap 10—Brian Paulus got 4th from Jason Sides on the high side of the frontstretch

Lap 12—Caution for Jonathan Allard, who spun in turn 4. Allard retired from the event

Lap 13—Tim Shaffer took 6th from Sean Becker low on the frontstretch. With 13 laps complete, caution for a frontstretch crash involving Andy Forsberg and Steve Kent. Forsberg was unable to continue. Kent pitted for repairs but couldn’t make the restart.

Lap 16—Jason Meyers took 10th from Danny Lasoski on the high side in turn 4

Lap 18—Traffic. Donny Schatz’s lead a half straightaway over Craig Dollansky

Lap 27—Joey Saldana passed Craig Dollansky for 2nd on the top exiting turn 2

Lap 28—Caution for Kraig Kinser, who spun in turn 2. Kinser pitted for repairs to the drag-link, and restarted.

Lap 33—Steve Kinser got 10th from Danny Lasoski low exiting turn 4.

Lap 34—Traffic. Donny Schatz’s lead 10 carlengths over Joey Saldana

Lap 35-- Blake Robertson (started 23rd) passed Jason Sides for 6th low exiting turn 4

Lap 38—Blake Robertson took 5th from Tim Shaffer low on the frontstretch.

Lap 40—Donny Schatz won by 8 carlengths.
