Don't know what to think.....

After the antics that CART pulled last yr, I for one won't shed a tear if and when CART is done. However, I don't know that I want all the CART guys coming over to the IRL. It wouldn't bother me if a couple of them came over, but I don't really care to see the whole lot of them. I can certainly do without having to watch Kenny Brack. Bringing all these CART teams over, IMO is going to make it tougher for the smaller teams like Billy Boat and George Mack to run. Alot of the smaller teams in the IRL don't know if they're going to be able to afford to run next year and I find that sad. I don't want to see the IRL turn into CART. I don't mean that I wouldn't mind seeing some road courses, I'm talking more about the money issues. I just don't want to see the smaller teams ousted because they can't afford to try to run up front against all the bigger teams. I know this sounds weird coming from a Penske fan because Team Penske fits right into the group that I'm worried about. However, alot of the smaller teams were still able to compete this yr. I'm just afraid of getting too many big named teams in the IRL. I know that it might make for a bigger fan base, but at the same time I'm afraid that it will end up hurting the smaller teams that have fought so hard to get where they are today. Sorry for such a long post but I needed to somehow voice my uneasiness at the future of some of the smaller teams due to the influx of the very rich CART teams coming to the IRL.

PenskeGirl, it is a hard question to answer. I don't want to see the 'mega-bucks' teams come in and take control, either.

Those smaller IRL teams are living their dream right now, and I don't want to see it ruined. They gave us an outstanding season this year.

I hope it takes 2 or 3 years for CART to die on the vine, giving time for the IRL to absorb some slowly.

Kenny Brack does nothing for me, either. LOL

What antics did CART pull last year?

I would hate to see the little guys pushed out by the bigger teams (Billy Boat rules!) If all of the CART owners do move to the IRL I guess Tony George would have to split off again and make another series, taking Indy with him as a life raft of course

thechase77, I copied this from one of my earlier posts because I didn't feel like typing it all out again.

I'm going to take a moment here to tell ya'll why I will NEVER use FedEx, EVER......
Last yr the teams flew over to Germany the weekend prior to Sept. 11th. The only people that weren't there were the owners and others that usually don't show up til race day, or the day before. While most drivers aren't american, most of their team members are, and they were of course devastated. They couldn't get home to be with their families because there were no flights. Quite a few team members lost someone they knew or was close to. Team Penske's shop is located just about 3 hrs from NYC, and I know that a few of those guys had lost someone they knew or was close to. While the rest of the world "took a break" and all major sporting events were cancelled or postponed, CART FedEx decided that they were going to go ahead with the race. Many, many teams protested, but they ran anyway. Alot of sponsors were upset with that and pulled their logo's off of some of the cars. Then it went from bad to worse..... with 12 laps to go, Alex Zanardi was in the crash that caused him to lose both of his legs. He had lost so much blood that that they had to use speedy dry to clean it up. Meanwhile, other drivers are having to drive by this scene and see the devastation. I like to think that most racing leagues, with only 12 laps to go, would call the race, due to the nature of the accident and how messy the scene itself was. However, CART officials could be heard on the headset radio's that all team members wear, literally yelling at the "simple green" clean up crew to HURRY up and get things cleaned up, they wanted to finish the race under green. SCREW you CART.

You're a Penske fan (probably the biggest money team there is) that's worried about the big money teams coming over to the IRL and ousting the "little guy"

In the immortal words of the virgin Mary...come again? :(

Windy, it seems you didn't exactly comprehend what you apparently read...... I said that the smaller teams will eventualy be outsted if all of the CART teams come over. If only a few come over, they should still be able to afford to race. They were able to afford to race this yr. Why don't you re-read this excerpt and try to comprehend it a lil better.......

LOL Paul, you just beat me to the punch.... I was coming back to apologize for the tone that I used when posting earlier. I was caught at a bad time and was a lil agitated in general and took it out on Windy because he was questioning something that I thought I had already covered. I've since calmed down and thought about my verbage, which is why I came back to apologize. My apologies to Windy, and any and all that have read this thread.

LOL...no need to apologize. :)

With regards to your original post though...surely you have to appreciate the irony in it? You're a fan of the biggest team (outside of TCGR) and you're posting in support of the little guy in the IRL. What?! You seriously want Penske to be the only big fish in the IRL pond? You don't want to see your beloved Penske boys racing against the best available teams and drivers (like they did in 99 and 2000)?

What you're saying just doesn't compute...the IRL and Tony George have all but turned their back on their "grassroots" open wheel philosphy IMHO. Why else would they court the big teams...and the big manufacturers? Toyota and Honda will throw more Japanese Yen at this effort in one or two years than Chevy/Olds/Infiniti have since the IRL began in 96.

Their aim is clear...eliminate CART...and have the IRL be the only game in town...with TG pulling the strings. I can't say I blame him...business is business.

I guess what I'm trying to say is...you can't have it both ways.

WC, I don't want Penske to be the only big team in the league. I just don't want ALOT of them coming over. I only got into open wheel racing three yrs ago and that was in CART. I have friends that work for Penske so my loyalty followed over to the IRL. Before this season I didn't even know who Sam Hornish was. Having watched all the IRL2DAY shows, all the races and going to some of the races, I've gotten to know quite a bit about alot of the guys in the IRL. One of the first things I noticed was the difference in resources. When I would go to a CART race I didn't notice any difference in the majority of the teams. Moneywise all the teams were pretty much on an even keel. Once I started going to the IRL races I noticed the difference. Example: This yr at the Richmond race George Mack wrecked his car during qualifying. He only has one car. His team worked through the night to put it back together. (he ended up wrecking in the race too). My heart really went out to the guy. He's a nice guy who is racing his heart out and doing the best he can with what he has, and what he doesn't have is the resources that the CART teams have. Truth be told, I wish there was another american open wheel series that Penske could've gone to. My whole point wasn't that I wanted Penske to be the only big dog in town. My point was that even though I'm a Penske fan, I have a heart and my heart goes out to the teams that don't have the resources that teams like Penske have. If too many teams come over from CART, they'll eventually have to give it up. For them, I don't want to see that happen. Hence the reason I "Don't know what to think". I'm a Penske fan, but I'm also a fan of the other teams.

The whole IRL/CART thing happend before me. I honestly didn't know anything about it until this yr when Penske switched. For the people that are in the know about the whole situation, I can totally understand their beef with each side. Yeah, I have a beef with CART but it's not because of the whole IRL/CART thing. It's because of the way they handled the race in Germany last yr. To this day I still don't know what happend to split the series.

No worries PenskeGirl...

I guess it was silly of me to assume you had more of an understanding of the history of CART or the IRL. Its probably best if you don't hear it from me...lol :)

If you're really into American open wheel racing...you might be interested to know how it got to this point though...

And here's me thinking you knew more than me about OWR...ya know, you being a month older than me and all...hehe :p

"you being a month older than me and all."

That may be true, but I'd bet I LOOK YOUNGER than you.

:p

I don't doubt that...

I went prematurely gray starting when I was 18... :p

Still freaks me out when people older than me call me "sir"

I've got a ton of stress greys that I go out of my way to hide. When I get carded for cigs or alcohol and I don't have my ID on me, I always ask them if they'd like to see my grey hairs. It's great to be 30 yrs old and still get carded but it's not fun when it's the middle of august, hot as hell, and you can't get a beer because your ID is in your car a LONG WAYS AWAY.

hmmm...Just like F1 Australia only gets to see CART once a year! We get little as it is....I hope the IRL are looking into taking over the Gold Coast race if/when this happens?

Has anyone heard anything by any chance??

I have been a pretty big team Kool Green fan but it would seem that teams falling apart/moving else where also!!
