Dover Downs, anyone?

If I don't go to a race this year, I think I'll scream. More than I usually do. I'm so jealous of all you folks who attend them even semi-regularly. I don't know anyone who wants to go, so I'm stuck not ever going, unless I break down and go by myself.

Which brings me to the point of this thread. Anyone going or care to go to the Dover race weekend next month? I just checked their website, and there are still tickets available. (Well, a ticket was available five minutes ago.) I'd like to go to the Busch race too, of course.

Should cost me a bundle, but not nearly as much as Bristol or somewhere more desirable and farther away. Dover's probably the closest track to me, but I've never been there. It always gets my goat when the boys are nearby and I'm not right there watching them in person. I'd like to break that tradition this year, if at all possible. :)

I realize this is very last minute, and that none of you really know me from Adam. I'm a little quirky, but not an axe murderer or anything glamorous like that. You can trust me. :D

I still plan on at least trying to go by myself. Have any of you ever been to a race by yourself? If so, exactly how sad was it?

Better yet, anyone ever been to Dover? I don't know which ticket to buy, but I've got my eye on one in the South Grandstand. Is that a bad spot? I read somewhere that the best seats are inside the clubhouse on the backstretch. Would a seat on the backstretch be better? While you're at it, where exactly is the backstretch? I clearly have no idea what I'm talking about.

Think about it...and thanks!

Why you worried, pbunch? Because I'm desperate enough to drive all the way to Delaware by myself, spending hundreds of dollars on last minute tickets, hotel room, and rental car so that I can say that I've been to at least one race this year?

Doesn't worry me in the least...

I don't think so, Paul. I worked out the miles a long time ago and don't remember exactly, but Dover and Pocono are the closest. And I've been to Pocono and dislike it tremendously. Like watching it on t.v., though. :)

If you went to Loudon, you would drive right past my house and pick me up. :)

Well gee abooja, if ya got it covered THAT well, get me a ticket and fly me in. The wife's been looking for a good reason to collect on my insurance for years. ;)

You should only know the half of it, pbunch.

:D

Ummmmmm.Allrighty then.My imagination just went into overdrive,And I am catching visions of sugerplums dancing in my head.:p

pbunch: Gotta love a good imagination. :)

71Fan: I think Vegas may be out of my price range, else I'd be flying there!

Paul: Anytime...

I'm sure HardScrabble would suggest duct tape. But there are so many choices.

Neither of which are very much fun, guys.

Well, on second thought...

:p

Hey Abooja, all kidding aside, we're 99% going. Went last year on a whim (went to an Orioles game on Sat night and said, what the hell, we're half way there!) Got very good tickets for face value and even found a hotel room. This year, we're staying at a friend's house at Bethany Beach, and driving down for the race. If you're serious, we could maybe meet and get tix together. PM me this weekend when I know our plans for sure. We may have a fun bunch going.....:)

Well dern, I'm crushed.

Dead or divorced is kinda steep for Dover anyways. Now if it was Bristol...............;)

Hey now, 71fan, Dover's a lot of fun!! Still Concrete, kinda like a big Brisol...... Gotta give it a shot!

naaaaahhhhh, the deal with the life insurance goes like this...

I'm really a Caddy and she's a Corvette. And I WANT that Corvette.:D

Really, HH? That would be way cool! I'll definitely be in touch...

You're absolutely right, 71Fan. Bristol is totally worth getting divorced over. :D

Or after...

I would love to see Dover. All we got is this dern cookie cutter. Oh well, with any luck I'll be waving at ya'll from the top of Rattlesnake Hill at Phoenix later in the year.

Just my 2 cents but if you end up going by yourself don't feel weird at all. I would go to races, ballgames, or whatever by myself for lack of having someone to do stuff like that with. And I always met new people and had a great time. So hopefully you can hook up with someone from here so you won't feel alone but if not, go anyway. You would be surprised to find out how easy and enjoyable it can be by yourself. A race weekend with a video casino thrown in just for fun? I'm jealous!

Thanks for the advice, Saluda. :) And hello!

Now, what's this about a video casino?... :growl:

I think there is a casino there. Slots, video poker, video blackjack, and all the related fun that goes along with that.

I must be confusing the complex with Dover Downs, but still, you would have plenty to do and you know how friendly race fans are.

You're right, Saluda. But, if you check out the bad habits thread, you'll see that I'm antisocial, among other things. :)

Nah, if I can get everything to work out financially and such, I will definitely go, alone or otherwise. If I get fired next week, that's another story. :(

Now Hold on thar a Boo Boo,
What's this about gettin' yerself fired next week??

Well, I wouldn't be getting myself fired, just layed off along with everyone else. My company's in bad shape, and we have lots of fat to trim. I thought my pittance of a salary would spare me, but I doubt it. It's only a matter of when... :headshake

I went to a Dover Busch race last year. You can pretty much see the whole track from where ever you are sitting at. My family was is the Dale Earnhardt Grandstands. The one problem about Dover is the trafiic is horrible like Pocono.

Well I hope you find your way to the race......either with someone or alone!! You've been to races so you know that you will enjoy it, though I'm sure you would have more fun with someone. Heck if Cutiepie and I weren't 3000 miles away we would go with you.:)

And hope you are wrong about the job.......hurry get something lined up before they get to your part of the "fat" (sorry that was your word:) )!! Good luck.

That's right behind pit road, right? Could you see the pit action from there? I wonder if I can get those seats...er, seat.

Thanks, DE. :) If these next few weeks weren't so hot with good races, I'd get a lot more studying done too. I spend way too much of my time right here instead. :lovewow: :p :headshake
