NEW YORK (Feb. 10) - Dude! The actor who gained fame and a cult following as the slacker ``Steven'' in commercials for Dell computers was arrested buying a small bag of marijuana, police said.

Benjamin Curtis, a 22-year-old New York University drama student, awaited arraignment Monday on a misdemeanor drug possession charge.

Police said he was arrested Sunday night on the Lower East Side after officers on a drug detail spotted him buying a small bag of marijuana from Omar Mendez, 19. Mendez faces drug sale and possession charges.

Curtis' agent, Bonnie Shumofsky, had no immediate comment on the arrest.

Curtis' portrayal of a surfer type who proclaims, ``Dude, yer gettin' a Dell!'' drove up computer sales and spawned T-shirts, caps, and backpacks, along with Web sites and online fan clubs.

that would be scary.. and i bet then it would make E! Hollywood True Story :p
 
anyone else think the new commercials are worse than the old ones?
 
I dont know if the guy will go to jail or not....Here in Buford T.Justice land they are more likely to hold you for an expired auto tag than for Mary Jane. A slap on the wrist if he just had enough for 'personal use'. :blink:
 
Yeah, small amounts of a class D are usually a ticketable offense. Unless one of our resident LEA's can set it right.
 
haha, sucks to be him right about now, but hey... I agree with whoever said it.. "Dude, your gettin' a cell!!" LMAO! :blink: That face is funny lookin'..
 
Buying pot in most states is not an offense that carries mandatory jail time. Most likely a fine, probation, maybe community service work. He's probably done selling computers though.

Look for him to host some inane show on MTV in about 15 months.
 
I personally could care less. Doesn't make him a bad guy. We've all made mistakes. But I did find this...

He lost his job a few months ago. He may of failed the pee test and was let go. They never gave a reason for his letting go.
 
They reported this on our local news channel last night. The report said that if he stays out of trouble for 1 year, then the charge goes away. :(
 
Sounds like a Continuance Without a Finding with a year's probation. Punishment fits the crime.
 
Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Ellen Coin told Curtis that if he didn't get into trouble over the next year, the charges would be dismissed and he'd avoid a criminal record.

Just one slip, however, would restore the charges, Coin cautioned.

"You understand?" she asked.
"Yes, your honor. Thank you, your honor," he replied.

With that, Curtis' brief appearance ended and he left, refusing to answer questions.

His agent, Bonnie Shumofsky, said she was confident the charges would be dismissed.

When asked about the kilt Curtis was wearing when he was arrested, Shumofsky chuckled and said: "No comment."

The charges assume a suspect is carrying just enough pot to roll a few joints for personal use.

Still, Dell - the world's No.2 personal computer maker - was watching closely, spokesman Venancio Figueroa said. "It's too premature to speculate on what we may or may not do," he said.

Advertising experts said the drug bust shouldn't hurt Curtis' budding career. "If anything, it seems to be very on character," said Jim Hanas, editor of AdCritic.com.
 
He was just charged with a misdemeanor so I dout he will spend any time in the cross bar.

People grew tired of him. Like they are gonna get tired of the little fat banker for Ditech.com. :rolleyes: :D
 
One of our radio stations was talkign abotu this, at the end of the story the DJ said. "Dude, your getting a Cell!" Everyone in the class including the teach laughted
 
I heard some on the radio too today.
