DuPont extends contract with Gordon, Hendrick Motorsports to 2010SceneDaily Staff
Thursday, May 29, 2008

Hendrick Motorsports and Jeff Gordon today announced an extension of their NASCAR Sprint Cup Series sponsorship agreement with DuPont through the 2010 racing season.

At that point, the sponsorship will have been in existence for 18 years.

The contract extension was announced by Gordon and David G. Bills, DuPont chief marketing and sales officer, on DuPont NASCAR Day, an employee appreciation event held annually at the company's headquarters in Wilmington, Del.

"DuPont has a long tradition of excellence in the automotive world and we're proud to be a part of it," Gordon said. "The fact that we're now in our 16th year together speaks volumes about the success of this partnership."

DuPont launched its NASCAR involvement in 1992, when it decided to sponsor Gordon, then a 21-year-old rookie driver. Gordon,
now 36, is a four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion.

"The relationship Hendrick Motorsports and Jeff Gordon have enjoyed with DuPont is not just one of the great success stories in NASCAR, but across all forms of sponsorship," team owner Rick Hendrick said. "We feel fortunate to have such a terrific, long-term partner, and our entire company looks forward to an exciting future with the No. 24 DuPont team."

Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

I think dupont/Hendrick and Castrol/Force are the 2 longest running team sponsorships in any sport.

I thought DuPont had a lifetime contract with Gordon and Hendrick.

Jeff has a lifetime contract with HMS.

"I don't know if I can explain how much of all this should be attributed to Jeff," Hendrick says. "But we'd never won a championship before Jeff, and now we've won 10 over three different series. He took us to the next level."

Which is why Gordon is the only HMS employee not named Hendrick with a lifetime contract.
