Waltrip has called on NASCAR to collect the debris that warrants a caution and display it on a table for everyone in the garage to see.

"I think there needs to be a justification for the cautions in everybody's mind," he told USA Today. "The only way to have that is put the pieces on display. That solves the problem."

Helton disagreed.

"I don't know that it's on us to sit down with Darrell Waltrip and convince him we are doing it right," Helton said. "He made a good career out of this sport. He won three championships and he and his family have a nice quality of life with it, and I recall on occasion he himself throwing out pieces of debris on the race track to get a caution to benefit himself.

Although I understand the irony of DW accusing NASCAR of cheating, I happen to think he's right and the fact that NASCAR won't even consider it just proves to me that Tony Stewart and all others who have called NASCAR out on the mysterious debris cautions are right. :beerbang:

They might not owe it to DW to show him anything. They owe the fans that much and more. If it weren't for the fans there would be no NASCAR. Mike(Castro) Helton thinks he knows everything.

I do agree, but backpadeling will not help the situation at all.

I don't see that Waltrip's idea would bring any confidence, after all, they could just grab any part laying around and say it was the caution causing part. (Just watch the conspiracies if it has an '8' on it...LOL)

As an aside, this whole "disappointed in Tony" crap is going too far.
And while Helton would not discuss how disappointed he was in Stewart, "Tony knows," he said, he admitted that NASCAR officials took the criticism personally.
Who the hell cares if Helton, who by the way, is making a good living from the talents on the track, is disappointed in anyone? These guys put their lives on the line and they deserve to know that things are being run fairly and if there is a question of it, there is a problem and it is NASCAR's duty to fix it.

I agree :bounce:

Keep in mind, Tony Stewart never retracted his charge, re: NASCAR throws phantom cautions.

Meantime, DWaltrip has been asking the same question eveyone else and once again, Mike Helton, like Jim Hunter before him, has deflected the response. Helton noted DWaltrips successes as a driver, team owner and announcer and Jim Hunter made statements of fact, none of which had anything to do with whether NASCAR uses phantom cautions for whatever reason.

Until NASCAR takes a positive approach to disprove theorist conspiracies and eliminate any doubt they are legitimate and credible, YES, it is Mr. Helton's responsibility to show debris causing cautions.

Failure to fail to do so will only bring continued accusations concerning the integrity of the sport.

NASCAR doesn't have to convince DW or display the debris on a table in the garage area but how hard would it be to display on the air? That's assuming there's enough of it to warrant a cleanup of the track. They do clear it off the track, right? Show the cleanup workers doing something. TV wouldn't even need to get NASCAR's approval for that, or would they? It would be a bit embarrassing cleaning up debris that couldn't be seen.

Once again I have to disagree with most on this subject. We all know that NASCAR only exists because it's entertainment. If not for the fans, those boys would still be running around a lousy track in old cars that they built themselves with what money they have. I can see why the fans are objecting to this, but for the most part, most of the fans want to see the excitment of racing, not follow the leader. It's totally understandable that the drivers/owners could feel cheated because it's their jobs to make the best of the sport. Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson or Dale Earnhardt Jr. and any of the others would love to be able to go out there and lap the field and not have any competitors within a single lap of them. What a feeling that would be. But they also love that sheer joy of racing side by side, dueling with a fellow competitor, lap after lap. I know they don't care about dueling with any lap down cars, but that is part of the sport.

NASCAR has always tried to rein in those in the sport with the "you are making a good living doing this" type of talk. Now that booth has two commentors who have had that talk given to them. Larry MacReynolds was told that some time ago when he was a CC for Mike Skinner. NASCAR just doesn't want anyone to rock the cradle, and for good reason. Whether we like it or not, NASCAR does have a good equation of how to make money and lots of it, not only for them, but for a multitude of people as well. I don't begrudge any of the players who gripe about anything, but I also know that if any of them don't want to continue doing what has made them so much money, they can step aside and there will always be someone who will step in and take their place. One thing for certain, if you make the races so boring, the viewership will wane and along with it will go the millions of dollars that go along with it. And yes, if it makes this sport more and more like pro wrestling, then so be it. We all know how fake that sport is, but it still makes millions.

It's entertainment baby!

No I want DW to keep griping and complaining. Come on DW really go after Helton. Then maybe your pass gets pulled and you can sit home and watch the race with the rest of us and give my ears a break...

If fans want to see the debris and from all the talk it seems they do, why not out cameras on the cleanup vehicles? The networks can show the cleanup in one corner of the screen while pit stops are going on.

NASCAR would never go for that.

They don't have to. With the long lens the cameras have they could easily show the debris, if they wanted to.

Please answer me this on this subject, what is wrong with the frequent cautions? Did all of you like what you saw today in the follow the leader portion of the race? Isn't it more exciting when the field is bunched up? Isn't it great that once in a while your favorite is able to get back on the lead lap with the lucky dog rule? They got rid of the racing back to the flag so this is now the only way to make up laps and I'm sure most of us here have had our favs do so and come back to have a good finish.

And, today they did. Maybe the Networks are listening more than we thought.

I was also watching the IRL race at Kansas today. They showed the debris during every debris caution citing the scrutiny that NASCAR is under.

While i agree with some of this Buck, i have to say that if a car is better and can lap the field , well then in this day and age where cars are so equal;) , then that would truly be a great accomplishment. Dictating anything in any sport can only lead to the masses questioning the validity of those rules eventually , especially if they are blatant attempts at making a race"more" exciting. I remember the days when there were 4 or 5 cars that would lap the field, but there was still plenty of drama. Nascar continues to make silly statements like remember this is where you made your money, this is where you got your start.....so what? If you ruining my sport that i have a passion for , that i believe in, that i have put my time and effort into, dedicated my life to....then i have a huge problem when the Phantom Yellow is displayed with 15 to go to bunch the field up. I for one really get annoyed at this, it has become more apparent the last 2 years, as ratings drop, that Nascar is scrambling to make the RACING more exciting by displaying the Phantom Yellows.
