DW on Fox news...

DW was being interviewed on Fox news. He said his brother told him he did not know anything about the stuff in the manifold... And he assured the interviewer his brother would not lie to him.
He said Mikey had hired over 200 employees and gave the inference that ANY ONE of those 200 could have put something into the manifold!!!!
Of course WE know better. There were maybe 5 workers that even could have had access to that manifold.. AND prolly all of them would have had to know what was going on or else the substance would have been seen by the ones that did NOT know.
And doing something that radical without the bosses knowledge? Never gonna happen.. never!
The average news viewer might have bought what DW had to say... But those that are fans surely didn't buy it.

So let me get this straight:

- Michael Waltrip starts up a new team with a foriegn manufacturer that a whole lotta fans could care less about

- Michael lines up multi million dollar sponsors

- Michael works hard to gain respect of the other owners

- Michael is married to a honest faithful business partner that would hang him by his you know what's if he attempted to do anything stupid to jeopardise something that she has worked just as hard as he has to get it up and running

- EVERYONE in the garage knows that the intake is checked each time a restrictor plate is placed on the car by an inspectors hand for any foreign object or substance.


So even after that knowing that you can race your car into the Daytona 500 by a driver that has a history of being one of the best at restrictor plate racing, he authorized or allowed an associate to cheat his fuel with the high risk of getting caught? Knowing that tires and fuel are the last thing you want to tamper with as well, Michael just went ahead and said lets roll the dice on this one?? I know my entire empire has the chance to come crashing down. Oh but just think!!!!! If I do not get caught I can qualify 23rd for the Duels race!!!! Hell yes!!!!! Lets Cheat!!!!!!

So that we understand where we are both coming from. Mikey was thinking of running this stuff untested hoping that it would gain him enough "hawspowa" to put him on the poll. So let me get this straight:


- The fastest Toyota was not close to what the Pole Setter ran. The #55 was never even a remote factor when it came to speed.

- Michael decided to allow this stuff into his fuel system without testing or he ran it before coming to Daytona and said "Hmmmm, this gunky stuff in the intake is strange. Oh well, nobody will notice it.

Just do not see it. Sure I am a Mikey fan. But even I would stick up for freakin Jimmy Johnson and Rick Hendrick if the same thing happened to them.

Oh c'mon guys, this sort of thing isn't new at all and I'll be that there were others doing this that just didn't get caught. As for whether or not Mikey knew, as you can see, it doesn't matter one whit.

I understand how a combustion engine works but I don't understand the mechanics of how this "gel" was supposed to work.

I also heard they replaced the intake and got the same thing. So where was the gel coming from?

Something about all this doesn't add up.

I understand what " It's my job to cheat and your job to catch me" means but surely Waltrip hasn't lasted this long in Nascar by being a bad cheater.

Why would he make such an obvious attempt at cheating?

Maybe he really didn't think of it as cheating. He got used to doing such at his previous job, where was that again, and just figured that it was what everyone did.

From reading the blogs. If any gel would work it would have to offer what the engine was short of..AIR! So the gel to work must have released oxygen into the manifold to mix with the gasoline from the carburetor. This would have made more horsepower..
It is not a substance that one of the office girls would have had access to. It would take at least ONE of the MW engineers to have come up with the substance. And then prolly it would have been tested at at least ONE track in the past testing practices. Then it would take at least ONE of the engine installers at the track to install this stuff and keep the knowledge from the other engine installers.. In short it was a TEAM effort!!!!
