RICHMOND, Va. -- From music videos to awards shows, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is no stranger to successful cameo appearances. And he chalked up another one Thursday at Richmond International Raceway.
Earnhardt Jr., making his third NASCAR Busch Series start of the season, debuted his self-owned Chevrolet in record fashion, shattering the track record and earning the Bud Pole for Friday's Funai 250.
Junior rounded the three-quarter mile circuit in 21.282-seconds at 126.868 mph, some two-tenths of a second quicker than Matt Kenseth's former record set in May 2001.
Series points leader Greg Biffle will start alongside Earnhardt in second, marking the third time in the past five weeks he'll take the green flag from a front row starting spot.
Biffle, who leads the series in both poles (4) and wins (tied with Jason Keller at 4), stands 78 points ahead of Keller heading into Friday night's event. Keller will roll off fifth, just behind last week's winner at Darlington, Jeff Burton, and third-place qualifier Kevin Lepage.
Jeff Green, last year's Bud Pole winner in this event, qualified sixth, followed by Casey Mears, Stacy Compton, Kerry Earnhardt and Shane Hmiel.
