Earnhardt Racing Suit Stolen
A vintage racing suit once worn by NASCAR great Dale Earnhardt has been reported stolen from Texas Motor Speedway. Fort Worth police today announced they're investigating the theft of the suit that was donated to TMS president Eddie Gossage as a gift. The suit, helmet, racing gloves and racing shoes turned up missing this month from a locked storage cabinet at the TMS administrative offices. Police put the value of the items at up to $100,000.(SI.com)

Thats unreal , I wonder how they come up with the 100k value . Where do you fence something like that its not like your going to be able to put it on Ebay. I am not a memrobilia guy but the most interesting Dale Earnhardt peice I ever saw was a guy from SC who had a bounced $ 500 cheque that Dale had wrote for tires back in his short track days . The guy told me he took it to show Dale at an autograph session years later and Dale offered to make it good but the guy declined saying he fiqured it was priceless.

The thief that stole that is not going to be able to get rid of it (if he stole it to sell) and he's probably not going to be able to use it for show and tell without one of his equally sketchy friends ratting him out for any reward.
What a moron!

maybe he stole it for his own collection.

Maybe its my lack of understanding of the criminal mind but what would be the point in having something like that if you could never show it to anyone ?

I have this picture in my mind of some loser sitting in the dark wearing it playing SIM racing on his computer.

^ indeed, i dont know why someone would steal something and not sell it.

I'm not assuming it was a guy as maybe it was an adoring female fan who stole it for her husband to wear in the boudoir.

Not unusual. Collectors don't care if anyone, other then themselves, ever sees their stuff. But I'm not saying the guilty party here is a collector.
