I have a quick question. I need to know the make and model of Dale Earnhardt's #06 Howard Furniture ride, he ran back in the '70's.

I just bought the decals for a 1964 Chevelle that I wanted to redo but, I want to be correct. The car kinda looks like an Olds but, could be a Dodge. I have a pic of the car but I don't know how to post it on this site. Email me ([email protected]), and I could forward it to you. ANY info on this car wuold be a HUGE help to me.

Thanks and PEACE!!!

As a huge fan of Dale Earnhardt, I should know that..........at least you'd think so. :) But I had never heard of Dale Earnhardt before 1979. I thought he drove a number 8 up till he got into the Grand National......then it was the number 2, which was a Ford, then a Chevy, then the number 3 which was a Chevy right up til 2001. Can't help you, buddy, but I'm really curious. boB, Tiny, or Whizzer might know. :)

I am positive it was a Dodge but can not remember the year for sure, about a 72 - 74 I think. White with red numbers, ran at Charlotte I do believe.

I don't know about Howard Furniture and Dale. They are more often linked with Bobby Isaac and Neil Castles. Dale did drive the #8, a rebuilt 1964 Chevelle in 1974 and the sponsor was Doc's Cycle Center. His 1st win in NASCAR came in this car. In 1979 he was in the #2 a Pontiac Ventura for Busch. In 1980 he moved to Cup in the #15 Pontiac Ventura.

The 15 was owned by Bud Moore and was a ford. It was about '82 When he was in the 2 it was all GM, but they ran Olds, Pontiacs and Chevys.

1980 was Dale Earnhardt's first full season in NASCAR® Winston cup racing in a 1980 Pontiac Ventura.

Ya got me with this one. I don't recall Earnhardt driving a #6 let alone a car sponsored by Howard Furniture.

His first start in NASCAR's premiere series in1975 driving the #8, owned by Ed Negree. For the next few years Earnhardt with several different numbers. It was '79 (I think) he drove the #2 for Osterlund and had Chevy, Buick and Ford labels under him.

I can't find where he ever drove a #6 car in the Cup or Busch series...

Email me the pic you have at [email protected] and I'll get it up here for all to see.

He drove the car you are looking for in the 1975 world 600 at Charlotte. I am trying to find a photo, this was a one race deal with Ed Negre. He finished about 22nd or so I believe.

According to the NASCAR.com race results fro the 1975 World 600 Dale Earnhardt drove #8 10,000 RPM Speed Equipment Dodge and Harry Gant drove the #06 Big Chance Special Chevrolet.

I am absolutly positive it was a white dodge with a red 06 on the side. he finished one place ahead of Richard Childress. Oh yeah, Dale did not have his Mustash at that time. ;)

A few of you guys hit the nail on the head. #06 - white with red roof trim and red wheels. I was emailed that it was a plymouth roadrunner but, me thinks not.

Appreciate all the good help from everybody. Beers, all around!!!

Dale used to drive for my friend Neil Castles in some of the Charlotte races early in his career. I think this '68 or '69 Dodge Coronet of Neil's may be the one you're thinking of. In the larger pic you can see the twin side mouldings that are on the Dodges but not the Plymouths. That's why I think it was a Dodge. With the grill out it is kinda hard to tell for sure.

Luke, as usual, the history and photos are great.

Perhaps you can fill me in as I do not recall Dale driving for Neil Castles but do know Castles drove plus used a whole buncha different drivers in the sixties and early seventies.

I don't recall Earnhardt driving in a NASCAR race prior to 1975 or in a car #6 and there must be some information on this from someone who is a student of Dale Earnhardt's career.

If anyone has this information, please pass it along as there is a lot of interest on this forum and it might help jog this old mans memory.

Thanks.

That would be like asking Henry Ford about a Model T. What he wouldn't know or couldn't find out could be put in your eye and it wouldn't even water let alone blink. He's a great guy and a wellspring of info and I'm glad to call him a friend. I just wish he'd check in a little more often and tell us what he's up to. I've missed a couple of his books because the were sold out before I knew they were coming.

LUKE, I know what you mean about his books. I've been fortunate to grab onto most of them.

The last one I got was the NASCAR Chronicle --- and it is something else. Fabulous pics.

And most definitely, I wish he'd check in a little more often.

Thanks, LUKE '57- I've been trying to find out the make and model of that particular ride for a few weeks now. I have decals to make one 1/24 scale diecast or plastic model, problem was that I wasn't sure of which car it was.

Again, many thanks to all. Anyone know where I could find such a diecast???

PEACE, SAVAGE!!

Not sure about a diecast in that scale but I think RC2-ERTL has a plastic kit out now. Check Racing Champions web site.

Got a brief note from Greg Fielden

Great to "see" you again......Thanks for the email & the photo of Dale with the #06.....I'm in Richmond right now & don't have my fingers on all the information I need, but I think that #06 was a Dodge.....I remember Dale was in a Dodge Charger #06 at Charlotte in '74 for the World Service Life 300.....Neil Castles did own that car.....Theone in the photo below actually looks like a Dodge SuperBee, which Neil did run in Grand National competition a little bit in the late '60s......Might have been one left over that he took to Charlotte for Dale.....

I'm hoping that once he gets back from Richmond, I'll hear from him again.

When you hear form him be sure and tell him I said hello. And that we're gonna have to get together and do some bench racing soon.
