I am interested in buying things off ebay. There is a few things I was wanting to buy in a NASCAR store and they are around $70-$80 at the store each. Plus there is something there that was pulled from the shelfs but i want it. I can find them at ebay for less than $20 each. So i really want to buy them both from ebay. I have absoultly no idea how ebay works and don't know how to trust the people on ebay. Is there any one here who buys stuff off of ebay? I have no credit card so i would pay with money order if the person accepts that. Any help would be appreicated. Just really need to know how to get started and how it works.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi PettyBenson

I have used ebay for a little over a year now........it's great if you know your prices and know what you want.......
ebay is an auction site that you bid on, but there are a lot of products you can buy right out...thur the sellers store if they have one or thur a sellers BUY IT NOW...usually the buy it now is thur their auction...and that ends the auction once you use the buy it now.....
I have'nt had any problems with sellers, read their feedback to see how they are, if they have a lot of negative feedback, beware of them.....but read them before you buy anything, just click on the number beside their name.........
also, yes you can pay thur money order, check, credit card, or pal pal....also look at their payment before you bid or buy anything, some only take pal pal.....but most everyone will take money orders....also you don't need a credit card unless your going to sell on ebay.....
Most people you buy from on ebay are pretty honest, I have never had any problems with anyone, just had a seller that was very slow in sending out something to me, I griped enough and he sent me my merchandise (a purse) and the money back, I think he was afraid I was going to leave him negative feedback....
think i covered most of it.......you have anymore questions.
feel free to ask.......
I've pretty much become an experenced ebay buyer:D

I just started using ebay a few weeks ago and have already bought 3 cars at some pretty good prices. Its seems like people really get you on shipping and handling though.:(

boy you got that right mustang...they sure do get you on the shipping sometimes.........what makes me mad is when they want like 3.95 shipping and you get the package and they only paid 49 cents for it..boy that ticks me off......:(

My friend bought some old-school nintendo game or something for like a buck and paid $5 for s/h. Hmm...doesn't seem right. But hey, its all part of the game.

Wheel and deal... its all good.. lol.
I just now bought 2 cars off of ebay..

I have bought and sold quite a bit on ebay myself. You just have to know exactly how much something is worth before you bid. I have sold several things for almost as much if not more than what I paid for the item new. I try very hard not to overestimate shipping. Sometimes I get burned and pay more to ship an item than I charge for shipping, but it's all good. As Cutiepie said, make sure you check a seller's feedback before you bid. There are not too many bad sellers out there, but there are definitely some you want to avoid. If you see several negative feedbacks beware. Also, read item descriptions carefully. Some people list items that are incomplete (missing adapters, cables, instructions, software, etc) or broken! Your bid is actually a contract. Just take your time and read everything and do your research before you bid. You can do really well on ebay if you are smart about it.

Like they said, as long as you feel confident that the seller has a good rating, and as long as you feel confident that the price is right, it's a good place to get some steals. I've bought several items from there, including a vacuum cleaner that sells new for around $150. We got a new one for $20, including the shipping. Not bad. I've also sold some stuff through their sister company, Half.com. I listed some LPs on ebay. I didn't sell them, but a dude in Seattle contacted me and bought some of them twice, and a man who lives pretty close to here came over and bought some as well. I ended up, through these two people, selling about 2/3 of them for more than I wanted for ALL of them.

Anybody wanna buy some LPs?

I might add that if you sign up for a Paypal account and have a checking account there is no need to go get a money order PayPal will take the money right out of your checking account and pay the seller. Plus from time to time PayPal runs $5 off your first transaction.

I love ebay but am careful and your right they get you on shipping thats how they make their money. If you have read anything on the success stories for people who run their business strictly on ebay they will tell you thats where the money is (shipping and handling).

Just an FYI - most of the sellers purchase insurance at the post office when shipping you the merchandise, and that doesn't show up in the postage on the package. That way if your merchandise is damaged in shipping, you have some recourse in getting your money back.

ok i feel a little better about buying stuff on ebay now. I might go ahead and buy the cars. I got $100 for x-mas that my dad said to spend on the collection and i wanted to get the most out of my money and ebay is the best way to do it.
I am going to set up a name and all that stuff(if i have to) so that I am ready to bid when ever i want to.
I don't have a checking account so money orders is the only way I can pay.

Thats the only way I'll pay. Just be careful because ebay is very addicting!!:D

ok i just ran into a snag setting it up. My conformation e-mail does not work when i went to do the final step. i did send them the problem. I hope that is not a problem as to where i will not be able to use ebay. Just have to wait and see what they say.

ive spent hundreds on EBay - other people buy for me too though

Very addictive, I go there early in the morning (6:00) to search for a few things and next thing I know it's noon. Have gotten some great buys and some I probably could have gotten local at about the same cost. Today I just won a 1987 NASCAR Winston promo poster, with all the drivers of the 87 Winston. This is the one NASCAR tried to get back because Tim Richman let it all hang out for the photo. X rated if you know where to look.

I have overpaid for very few things. But, I also knew I was doing so. I bought some 4x Champ stuff as soon as Jeff clinched his fourth one because I didn't want to wait until it hit the stores. I wanted it NOW and recieved it in like 2 days. Paid like $10 more for a hat than I could have bought it for a few months later, but it was worth it at the time.
