I guess some really get caught up in the "auction fever". Now that my wood shop is basically gone I've bought quite a bit of stuff off Ebay for my new hobby. 95% of it new in the box.

I had bid on an item and also added a snipe bid for good measure. I dropped out when the bids went over my max bid. I just watched the bids continue in a bidding war. The "winning" bid was almost twice retail and there's a $10.95 shipping charge to be added on!

Must be great for the sellor but don't people do a little research into the price of items? I do a little and so far, so good. I've yet to hit 60% of retail including shipping.

Must be like gambling, a disease of sorts.

Exactly. All it takes is one or two idiots bidding more than something is worth to drive the price up way too far.

I've sold a few guitars on ebay for more than what I paid for them, even after I had played them for a long time. I've also gotten hosed on a few items over the years where I sold an item for a lot less than it was worth.
