I saw Jeff Gordon on the news last night seems he has been taking a few commercial flights to save on spending.

With all these teams laying off people, how can they continue flying Cup drivers from one place to another just so they can compete in both Cup and NNS?

Yeah, there's been articles all over the web about that. He apparently often flies that flight that landed in the Hudson Bay. Jeff actually owns a plane, but he did sell his yacht last year after Ella was born. He was booking coach flights, but kept getting upgraded to first by the airline.

I remember one of the drivers commenting last year when they were all going to Tony's Eldora track that it was ridiculous how many aircraft were there when they were all going to the same place.

I suppose these guys can only get as rich as the sport will allow which will depend on fans and teams on the track!

planepool?

Jeez, you guys act like these guys don't have any money. I would guess that if the public had to pay for their flights, there would be plenty of comments, but why does anyone think they should tell these prima donas how to spend their money? If they can afford to fly their own planes, so be it. If it's PR they want, they'll do what they can to make people think they are as poor as we are, but just take a look at their homes and where they live. Let's face it, the rich live much different than we do on a daily basis. And anyone who believes that Jeff Gordon can't afford his yacht is ready to buy beach front property in Phoenix.

Of course they can afford it! And as far as Jeff selling his yacht, it was so he could buy a fancy smancy motor home that was to be outfitted for a little one. Turns out Ms. Ella didn't sleep well in it and Jeff wasn't getting any sleep, so Momma and Ella started coming down on race days. I doubt they flew commercial. ;)

What's always amazed me is how all these athletes, movie stars, etc., who had more money than we ever could dream of, got so used to their "type of living" that they ended up bankrupt when the big bucks stopped coming in. That's also happened to a lot of big lottery winners. To we "little people" it's hard to believe they didn't have some advice on how to invest or protect some of that $$$ so they would be set for life.

I was actually just stating what's been said by the drivers themselves, not what I think they should do. Although when it was just a handful of them going to Eldora, yeah, I could see why they could travel together. If I did tell them what they should it would be: they should give me tickets and lodging to every race and fly me there every week, full pit and garage privileges and whatever else I wanted while there. Oh yeah, and I'd like all the t-shirts and whatever I wanted. If one got a stain, I'd just put on another and probably throw out the one with a spot instead of trying my damnedest to get the spot out. LOL :D

Sure it wouldn't hurt them to share a jet or whatever. It also wouldn't hurt a lot of us to carpool. While I've done it before, it's also a major pain and I prefer being on my own so if I want to go someplace after work, I don't have to worry about it being my turn to drive them home. It's all relative, isn't it? :)
