We've all watched many drivers do very risky moves to make passes, when they work, they're heros for having the guts to make such a move. When they don't, the guy is a zero for making such a stupied move. Most of the time the really risky moves really depend on luck of everything going right for it to succed. IMO the difference is a driver with a few years experience under his belt stands a better chance to succed at these moves because his reasoning and calculating ability have more experience to draw on to help his decision making. A younger, or less experienced driver don't think far enough ahead to calculate a successful move to the end. ...... Ezample; a young guys sees an opening, he knows he can get in there, but his reasoning don't ask him if he has enough momentum to carry him through and completly clear, or if he'd be over driving his car to do it.
Which IMO is the point here of Kasey's move here on Carl. He made the move into the corner getting him along side midway through 1 & 2 coming out of 2 as ALL the cars go wider to the top of the track Kasey's car was loose and the rear was sliding out a bit. There's a great shot real close up just before Kasey hit the wall from a camara right there on the wall and it shows Kasey's car sliding and about a foot between Carls car and Kasey's. I've rewatched the replay in Slo-Mo several times this morning because it showed me something that I hadn't seen before. Carl didn't hit Kasey until after Kasey touched the wall.
You can argue this all you want, but if you replay it from the time they restart and slow motion threw the corner you'll see exactly how it happened.
