For those who have criticized #48-Jimmie Johnson for fooling around and falling off a golf cart, #99-Carl Edwards says let's get real. "To be honest with you I´m a little disgusted with the media and some of their reactions to that. It´s pretty amazing. I tried to get Jimmie to go motorcycle riding with me about three weeks into the Chase and he´s like, Carl, I´m focused on winning this championship, I´m not taking any risks. I thought that said a lot about Jimmie´s focus and his ability to sacrifice. To me, if the dude wants to go ride around on golf carts...on top of them or underneath of them or skiing on a rope behind them, I mean he´s the champion, he won this thing, it´s his off season so he can do whatever he wants. I think it´s cool to think Jimmie Johnson was on top of a golf cart goofing around. I mean, you name a person in that garage area that hasn´t goofed around on a golf cart and I´ll give you a hundred dollars."(PRN's Garage Pass Radio Show)(12-14-2006)

you guys know im a not a JJ fan...but Carl is right on the money....JJ is going to be fine when the seasons starts....so its no big deal.....he's already paid for riding on top of a golf cart...and id bet he never does it again....but if he had done this during the season and he would have had to sit out a few races...then he's fair game.

Jimmy Johnson can jump in front of a speeding bus for all I care.

My father is dying of cancer so I'm a bit more worried about that than Johnson's limp wrist.

However, when I started playing golf, I was taught that actions like crawling on the roof of a cart are not tolerated and that you show respect for the course, the equipment and anyone else who may be out there.

Well that's a nice way to show concern for your fellow man. I just hope you don't piss off the karma gods with such an attitude.

I thought this was absolutely hilarious. Jimmy comes across in interviews as very staid and sober ---- this shows he has a comic side that most people never see. He can really "let his hair down" when he's with friends.

I agree with you, TRL. Jimmy always seems to be a political correct driving machine. Now we see the other side. Good for him.

I'll tell you one thing, if I had the money he does, I'd be doing something better for others than crawling around the top of a golf cart. That I can garuntee you.

Oh come on Patrick, are you so staid that you never lighten up?
The man is human after all, and he also donates time and money to a number of charity and child help groups.

Maybe the Kenseths of the sport need to enjoy life a bit more and just plain goof off like we all need to do.

Carl brings up a pretty good point. People criticize Johnson for being stale and boring, a corporate robot. He finally does something where he cuts loose, people are all over him for it. He just happened to get hurt while doing it.

Yeah sure. If, if, if.

He would have raised exactly the same in that charity golf game. Fooling around or not. Celebrities just have to be there. Or have their name asociated with the event.

sure you care thats why you commented.

however, when i started to play golf i would hit the ball far blah blah blah....
i would bet that the golf course owner could care less that jimmie johnson was riding on the top of a golf cart. im sure the owner doesnt care look at all the publicity the guy is getting from johnsons little golf outing.

I'm very sorry to hear about your father and will include you and your Dad in my prayers.
Again, fun is NOT sinful and even during the most troubled times, it's something we all need. Do YOU ever have fun Patrick?

He was playing around and cutting loose. I think it's awesome. Who hasn't done childish stuff like that? It's called living. I think it's great to hear about a celebrity still acting like a kid. I for one will never grow up and my family has hundreds of stories to cherish because we like to have fun. I'm not a JJ fan but this sure gives him some street cred. Kinda like when I heard that Bill Elliott's favorite thing to do in his off time is snowboarding. Never woulda guessed that but, I loved the fact that he was into it.

I was thinking (sorry) what if Jimmy had been driving that cart and someone else fell off the roof. I bet that would have been even worse.

I can see all the posts. "Reckless driver on the track and now the golf course." :(

Poor guy can't win. Wait. He did win, didn't he? And he deserved it.

Yeah, one of those things that are hard to picture.

I think that one driver that really floored me was Mark Martin when he said that he likes to listen to rap music.

I'm all for everyone having a good time, But what would have happened if he fell on his head, I'm almost sure he wasn't wearing his helmet and HAANS device:p The thing is These guys have commitments just about everyday. They cant afford to end up in the hospital. BTW how did he do in the race of champions.....;)
