I'm currently reading the novel that is the list of my bank's new fees and charges, pulled up the notification after seeing a $14 "MONTHLY MAINTENANCE FEE" on my account. $14/month for a checking account?

Wait, it gets better.

They will now charge fees for cashing checks, deposits and withdraws (but don't list how much said fees are). So, they now charge me to put my money in my account, to have my money in my account and to take money out of my account.

Needless to say I will be going to the branch Monday morning and closing my account.

Tim Wilson did a bit once about how a bank was charging $3 to check the balance in his account. "$300, well 297" How Much "294" so if I ask you another 98 times how much money I have, I wont have any more money!

Local credit union changed to a local community bank so they can do commercial loans.
They wanted to start charging fees on checking, atm etc. Told them "homey don't play that tune". Fees waived.

Everyone is talking up credit unions, but believe me, they are in the business of making money too. When a CU is small, they are great, but once they get the idea they need to grow, hang on to your wallet. I've experienced this too many times. BTW, I still prefer CUs over banks, but once they get so big, there isn't much difference.

I've never been charge for anything at my credit union in the 12 years that I've been a member.
