Eldora

I wish I could hit this race, but I'm too damn far away, especially for just 1 race.

Golly gee, I didn't know there were a bunch of 8 lappers! :sarcasm:

No Cup, no NW. I can drive an hour and see racing just about any weekend. They need more to get me to drive 600 miles.

There is nothing like Eldora anywhere else in the free world.

Until you have been there, you just wouldn't understand.

It's gonna be interesting to see the turnout for this years race. Last year's event had a whole lot of hype so we'll see if they can pack the place again.

No Cup, no NW. So it sounds like there will actually be some good racing then. There's so much more to racing than those top two series, but people just don't get it. And on top of that, it's Eldora. I have a friend that drove from MD to Eldora for the race last year with his wife and kids. Had a blast, loved it.

Just one race.

But to be fair, the truck race at Eldora isn't on my bucket list. There are other races at that place that are, but they ain't NASCAR races.

I think Truck and NW provide the best nascar racing right now. The Truck race last year was a bit lame because the trucks are so heavy they packed the dirt until it was like ice. There wasn't any dirt to speak of. I'm sure the late models will provide better racing. If it were a 4 hour ride, I would probably go when there is a better night of racing.

In the meantime, there's a bunch of tracks on my list before Eldora.

The truck race was lame? You may need to have your heart checked, I think you might be dead.

Jeez, they couldn't even get on the gas and restarts were lame. There was no cushion to be found. Then the track started breaking up.

Some kind of half breed dirt race. Just not interested at all. Probably wont watch much on TV if the track is the same.

LOL

No comparison.

What I mean is people say the same thing about the M-dog.
It's the greatest hotdog in the free world. Until you've had one, you just wouldn't understand.

Then you go there and get one and realize... it really isn't. lol

I'm sure Eldora will be a blast for those that go. I'll be watching on TV, so I'll keep an eye out for ya'll.

I'm about (as you are probably aware) one of the biggest dirt fans around. I was very skeptical leading up the the race. Everyone who knows anything about dirt knew exactly what the track was going to do. Hell, it was prepared specifically to be dry slick with no chance of a cushion to build up. Hell, even the tracks that some of these guys rented to practice on were requested to be dry slick. And everyone I know was presently surprised with how the race was run. And I'm talking dirt fans more diehard than me.

And then you came along.....

lol It was a very good truck race on dirt.

I knew the track would be soaked and packed real tight, but I was disappointed they didn't put loose on top so a high and low cushion could lend an advantage. I guess they were afraid what wheel spin and sliding would do to the track.

Be honest though, it was raced more like an ice race is than a typical dirt race. I hope they do better this year. In any case, I'm not driving 600 for that schedule. That's how all this started.

Anyone that was there last year is still trying to wipe the smile off their face. Lame? To each his own I guess. Eldora quickly became a new destination point for me each July. It is a very inexpensive ticket for the race as well as the camping. It is also a track that treats their customers right. Tony, or the people Tony hired to run that place do things the right way. It's a track that everyone should go to once.

Damn, I started a sheet storm here.

I'm sure you all will enjoy the hell out of the race and not give a second thought to what I think. I always assumed that was S.O.P. anyway. Enjoy.

I just went on to their website to check out the camping situation there for the Truck race week. Camping on the north side of the speedway, DP's camping area of choice, is all but sold out for the Truck race week. The west side has 142 spots available. It looks like there are a lot of return customers for this race.

Have a great time.

I wish I lived closer. :)

Or like you said every year, the wife and I will be there.

Like you I called quickly to get an extra camping spot when they put the leftovers up and there were only 8 spots left in lot 1 ( johali's preference) available but none that I wanted and now there is only 1 left. For me It's 829.95 miles one way but It will be included in a 3 week vacation.

Last year, the day that tickets went on sale I purchased my camping sites. All of the sites in the north lots were sold out in two days or so. The west lot took a long time to fill but eventually sold out. Now, when you go in there's slim pickings in the north. The west has far fewer spots than the day they went on sale last year. It makes it look like a majority of the spots were sold to return customers.

One day I'll get to camp on a race weekend. It sounds like you guys have an awesome time.

Hey, I've got two camping spots @ Eldora. A stones throw from Johali's front door. It may be a long ride but it's worth the memories.

They also have free camping in the north lot a little further away from the track. First come, first serve on those sites. I don't think too many people know about them as they weren't even close to being full last year. I also offer free shuttle service via my golf cart to/from the track.

And he bring's a full supply of special stones from a certain creek to pelt my door with.

No worries, his wife drives because he only has two hands for the BL's.

Thanks DP. That's real a generous offer. I'm sure I would have a great time hanging with you guys. Some day I may have the cash to fly out and rent a camper for the week.

My race priorities this year are the tracks that are a little closer. After Daytona, I'll try to take in Bristol, M'ville, Darlington, Richmond and Charlotte. If there is money left over, perhaps Kentucky. Maybe Dover if I can fold it into a NY visit, just to break up the long drive.;)

Ok, I'm not sure I want to know how he flings those stones at your door. ;)

I liked it because it was a first and different. But judging it as a dirt track race, the track was slick and the tires weren't up to it. Many passes were made by bouncing off the outside guy or when another driver slipped. I think they will do better this year matching the track to the tires. TV coverage was good as it could be. Smaller tracks are covered better for TV. I haven't seen the drivers and fans that excited as a whole in years.
