Eliminated from Chase and the Magic Number

There are nine races left this season..........Call it 3700 miles of racing. The #17 is pulling the numbers out more with each passing week.

As it stands going into Dover, Matt's magic number on Jr is 8. Should Matt finish 8th or better in each race remaining, there is nothing Jr can do to catch him. Matched against Kevin, the number is 10.

From the 30th spot (Kenny Wallace) on back in the standings, the drivers have been mathematically eliminated from the points hunt.

IF Kenseth starts every race remaining, those drivers from 25th spot (Jeremy Mayfield) cannot close the gap.

I think it's time to start engraving his name on the trophy....

i have a felling roush's bad luck will sneak up on matt before the seasons over.

At this point, I think people are just 'wishing' bad luck on Matt. Guess it makes 'em feel better. I'm not going to say Matt has it locked, but the opera lady is clearing her throat.

The magic number 8 against Jr. is if he wins every remaining race and leads the most laps in every remaining race right? So it actually could be higher than that.
