How many of you like the idea of this?

Wondering what topics were discussed during the most recent NASCAR Town Hall Meeting this week? If [Fox Sports'] sources are correct, the times they are a changin' - again. Let's start with the 2011 Chase for the Sprint Cup format. For now, the one format being discussed [is] where the top 15 drivers in the points standings are selected for an elimination-style championship. The first five drivers could be ousted, say, after the first four races and five more drivers knocked out depending on points perhaps four or five races later. The five left standing will battle for a winner-take-all in the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway - or whatever race NASCAR determines to place in that pivotal position on the schedule.

I've never liked the Chase since its inception. I like this even less. Don't the points already take care of the elimination of teams? I understand that they're simply trying to create drama. Sure, the idea of guaranteeing multiple drivers having a shot for the championship will have some fans attention but IMO, it's simply is a less meaningful victory than years gone by.

agreed, in reality drivers get eliminated very quickly in the chase, it's just not characterized that way. you could probably say 9 of 12 are eliminated halfway through the chase. expanding the chase to 15 now? i don't like the continual changing of the rules. go back to the pre-chase era and play with how points are distributed for all races. emphasize winning over top 5's and 10's. make winning the pole more important. who cares about most laps led? there's only 1 that counts.

I agree. Go back to the old points format. They keep tryin to tweak the chase system, because the chase system sux.

This sport is done.
The chase was a ridiculous idea from the beginning.

I read somewhere awhile back, that Brian France is trying to understand why older and long time fans are finding NASCAR racing less interesting. I've been a fan since 1958 and over the years have seen a plethora of changes but none more egregious than changing the point system to the Chase format.

Brian France, those who are purists do not like the changes being made for the satisfaction of the newer fans or those seeking instant gratification. Those fans will stick around until the next hot sport takes their interest and meantime the old timers will be gone and non-retrievable.

Yes, I'm an old fart. I tolerate progress on some things but not the blindfolded shots at a moving target to increase attendance and hold on to fans. These days more fans are walking out than walking through the door. Look for it to continue. The thrill is gone. And the only ones NASCAR could have depended have already been driven away or are waiting at the station for the next train out of town.

I totally agree, I never liked the Chase either, changing all the time just hurts the sport. I say also go back to the way it used to be, sure sometimes the Championship is wrapped up by the third or second to last race of the year. Under the Chase format it is sometimes it is too, a dominant team is just that dominant, all depends on who is hot and who has the most momentum. The team that is dominant most of the year should be rewarded with being the champion. To erase everything with 10 races to go is just silly. Perhaps giving points for the pole would be a good idea and making a win more important definetly would be good.

I guess in business, if you want to stay at the top, you have to continue to strive for the best. If you begin to wane, you have to change something. Whether or not Daytona is making the right changes, only time will tell, but you can't blame them for trying. People complained when Matt Kenseth won his title so changes were made. Now people continue to complain with any of the changes they have made. One thing is for certain, Daytona can never satisfy everyone. Personally, I think the emphasis of the sport should be on the individual races instead of that big trophy at the end and it used to be that way. But just as with every other sport, the money has changed everything about the sport from the cars and drivers, to the coverage of the sport. One thing for sure, as long as NASCAR gets huge TV contracts, the sport will continue as it is now with Daytona tweaking it here and there to try and get new fans and keep older ones.

I think the Chase should only be between 3 drivers. The rest don't deserve a chance. Only the ones that were close to each other and at the top.

I also think that gained points should be different for those 3.

*Edit... 1 post? Could have sworn I posted here before... maybe another name. :(

I just personally find it ridiculous when old fans say change drives them away if you are a true fan you roll with change, I'm sure basketball didn't lose fans when they stopped using peach baskets
