I like it.

Might be ok for some but not for me.

Cute, but not practical for a lot of the country.
o_O
I screwed up on the MPG, they are shooting for 84 MPG, yikes. Probably going to be one of the better innovations in the car industry since the first gen V.W. 15,000 miles a year would cost less than 800 bucks for fuel @ $4.00 a gallon.

If it really can deliver 60 plus mpg sign me up.

they are talking 84 highway. Reason I think it will be a success is because they used technology in a smart way, low aero drag, 55hp, only 1200 pounds. They have contracted with pep boys for service, so instant nationwide parts and service. Looks like most of it can be serviced by the owner with already made parts, so it isn't one of those two motors and batteries and oh yeah it costs three prices to save a few gallons and a rocket scientist to fix it. 6800 bucks and you can leave the SUV in the driveway until you need it.
hopefully they can meet their design criteria. Sounds like they think they have, waiting for the crash testing to begin.

Must Have’s for the Elio Brand:

  • 84 MPG Highway
  • Engineered for a 5-Star Crash Test Safety Rating
  • American made
  • $6800

Looks like they threw a body on a Can-Am motorcycle. except those start at around 20 grand and up. Mostly up.
Wife's hairdresser has a Mini, no room for a spare tire and jack so they come equipped with run flat tires. Run flat + weird size=$1,000 for set according to her. That's where all the money you saved on gas goes! And with a Mini or the Fiat you'll save on a casket too!

contempt prior to investigation will get ya every time. both of those imports have a long history of that kind of stuff. I had a Fiat 850 racer that I fixed and flipped before it broke again.

This guy is pretty sharp, 90% American made stuff in the car, apparently he engineered/used parts that were already being produced quite a bit in the design. The engine isn't though 3 banger overhead camer. Looks like a timing belt instead of a chain, but interesting it has an inspection plate at the top. Be real nice if you could replace the belt thru that and not have to take the front apart. Starter and all the accessories on the front look like you can get to them. I sure would like to see how it all fits under the hood.

Cool! Looks like a Can-am trike motorcycle with a car interior. Not a bad idea.

Make it autonomous and put a bed in it. I'll commute from anywhere then.

it could pay for itself, in beer runs store runs

real quick, I'm thinking about gettin one. pay for itself pretty quick with all the miles I drive and save my pick ups for bigger things. I have one that gets about 12 on a good day and the other gets mid 20's, so I could go for some 80's. I'll be pissed if I have to get a motorcycle license, I have a full boat CDL that I have to jump thru the hoops to keep every two years. 90 bucks for a Haz mat federal back ground check, and 25 bucks for the written and a DOT physical every year. Not to mention random drug tests at 60 bucks a pop. Give me a break, I can drive the thing alright?
