Elliott to replace Mayfield in No. 19 at The Glen

wow...ray must not like jeremy onebit!!

also that's rude to just sideline a contracted driver..one such as jeremy.

oh BTW by doing this..doesn't ray everham break the code of breaking his own contract by doing this?

I would think so I was thinking the samething!

well something's gotta be done...they havent ran worth a **** all year long.

you think its the driver?...heh we'll come back to this conversation when bill finishes 40th :D

UPDATE 4: Jeremy Mayfield may be free to leave Evernham Motorsports for Bill Davis Racing sooner than he expected. Bill Elliott will be in the #19 Dodge that Mayfield has driven for EMS since 2002 this weekend at Watkins Glen International, according to the Nextel Cup entry list released by NASCAR on Tuesday. Jeremy Mayfield has been driving the #19 Dodge since 2002. Contractual agreements remain to be settled before it can be decided if Mayfield will be out the remainder of the season. Team owner Ray Evernham could not be immediately reached for comment. Mayfield, who said last weekend at Indianapolis he likely would not be at Evernham Motorsports next season, said he had not been contacted by Evernham about a switch. "It's not professional, that's for sure,'' said Mayfield, who crashed on Lap 82 of Sunday's race and fell out of the top 35 in owners' points that guarantee a spot in the next race. "That's the way everything has worked around here for a while.'' A spokesperson for Evernham Motorsports said discussions with Mayfield Motorsports management began on Monday.(NASCAR.com), see the entry list on my Watkins Glen Entry List page.(8-8-2006)

That is bad if it is true!!!!

Jeremy is still under contract with EMS, but that doesn't mean that he is guaranteed to drive, just that he is guaranteed money.

Reck, you've got a lot to learn if you believe this is a rude thing to do. It's purely business and we need to check out Jeremy's performances at the Glen to see if he's good enough to guarantee that he'll make it in qualifying. Elliott has his past championship to fall back on and is also a past winner of a road race, though it was a long time ago at Riverside.

Last year, even though he won a race driving that particular car and crew, Kahne didn't have a very good year. Mayfield made the chase two years in a row driving the car that Kahne is now driving. Maybe it's just me, but I do believe that that car and crew just don't make it, and Jeremy is now paying for it.

buck i get that that is business but i dont think its right to just sideline a driver...i'm not talking about jeremy alone i'm talking in general.

i mean what is the point of that? and why hired a driver if you're gonna be putting him out of the car? makes no sense. also if lets say kasey does bad next year..then i guess kasey is out aswell?..i dont see how this is right

One thing I'll agree with ya on this is that it just ain't right. However, the last20 years or so, the sports business has lost all loyalty to everyone from the owners, to the teams, and to the fans. It's all about the money, and in NASCAR, each and every team has to fight tooth and nail for every cent they get. Long gone are the days that simple car manufacture support will get a team through. In the case of Evernham, it is almost exclusively that as his teams are sponsored mostly by Dodge, but they want results. The same can be said about any sponsor who puts their name on the hood of a car. What's even more of a shame is that those said sponsors even have a say-so about the drivers, and who's to say that Daimler/Chrysler wasn't behind this move? Or it could have been a mutual act as well. It's no secret that Jeremy isn't satisfied with what's going on with his team and with his notice that he might not be back next year with the team, it could be that those in power thought that might be the best way to go now. Jeremy could get so ticked that he asks for an immediate release from the team and that would save EMS that much more. And besides, it's about time for silly season to get into full swing.

Sadler, no way is Crocker getting that ride, at least i hope not. She isn't even ready for Busch yet, let alone drive a Cup car. Ray needs to get the 19 back in the top 35 in owner points before Daytona next year. Getting Bill to drive the 19 assures him that will happen with Bills' past Champions provisional. I see it as a purely business move, plus Bill knows the operation and is planning on driving full time again somewhere next season. Makes a lot of sense i think, plus Jeremy just isn't cutting it no matter how you slice it. Whethter it is the team, equipment or him, the 19 is under performing.
