At the Super Bowl?
I guess NASCAR isn't the only sport suffering from the current economic issues.
Looked like a full house to me.
I was surprised to see how many 49ers fans were there,
considering the proximity of Baltimore compared to SF.
I didn't catch any empty seats? or at least I didn't see anything noticeable.
from here. The Baltimore Ravens won the game but Super Bowl XLVII was a victory for CBS on Sunday. With an average overnight household rating of 48.1/71 the game was the highest rated Super Bowl in metered market history. The match-up between the Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers in New Orleans breaks the 47.9/71 record of Super Bowl XLV in 2011. It’s also up 1% from the 47.8/71 of last year’s New York Giants and New England Patriots game. Super Bowl XLVI on NBC was the most-watched event in U.S. TV history with a total of 111.3 million viewers.
Not sure about the empty seats but I did see that the Super Bowl broke ratings records again last night.
from here.
Not really a surprise when you look at what a week there including tickets cost. Only the people I keep making richer can afford to go.Looked like a full house to me.

They are. Was on ESPN and got roasted for saying how I agreed with Flacco for saying what a joke playing in Jersey next year will be. I like watching and have gone to cold weather games like in Green Bay but how many want to spend a week in Jersey in Feb. with what it costs to go. All I got was the players can deal with it but no one could get how maybe fans won't care too. Most that go to regular season games don't have to fly in and pay for hotels and inflated super bowl prices for everything all week.Saw somewhere the average ticket was $3400?
What do tv ratings have to do with the economy?But... but.... THE ECONOMY!!!
What do tv ratings have to do with the economy?
What do tv ratings have to do with the economy?
NASCAR apologists continue to say that the grandstands aren't full and ratings are declining solely because of the economy.
Brian started those rumors. Then he came to his senses and made a plan. It's called Gen 6. I hope it works.

Gas, meet fire..........Okay FB, I am going to say something here. Please, please, please don't let it go to your head.
Okay FB, I am going to say something here. Please, please, please don't let it go to your head. NASCAR's saving grace is Kesolowski. Yep I said it.. To me Nascar's popularity is all about drivers, not what the drive, how they drive, or where they drive. Kesolowski has the chance to put butts in seats like Gordon did in the late 90s, and Earnhardt before him. I have always said that the decline in Nascar's popularity has been linked to the decline in drivers like Jr and Gordon, and the rise of Johnson. People find Johnson so generic and dull. It is different with Kesolowski. While I don't like him that much as a driver, I am not stupid and can tell people turn when they hear Kesolowski's name. If he can keep up the winning, he will only get more and more attention.
Isn't Richmond a short track? Darlington? I guess not in the sense of Martinsville.
Maybe Richmond.
I think 'short track' is traditionally defined by NASCAR as under a mile - Richmond, M'ville, and Bristol. Me, I'd expand it to include the one-milers - Phoenix, Loudon, and Dover (and hopefully someday Rockingham again).Isn't Richmond a short track? Darlington? I guess not in the sense of Martinsville.

I guess I've been missing all the banging and bumping at some of these tracks.
They go out of their way not to bump and rub on each other. They're all so focused on being "respectful" and "racing clean" instead of putting on the type of show the fans want to see. Then, they turn around and mock fans on national television, saying all we want to see is carnage and destruction and that we don't enjoy hard racing.
Sorry, but guys going out of their way not to race "too hard", pulling over and letting other drivers pass, going out of their way to give other drivers "room", whining and crying that drivers aren't giving enough room to race when another car is within 2.5 seconds ... this stuff doesn't turn fans on.
Damn, I miss Earnhardt.
IMO, there's no better option to watching a race live, from the track. You can blame empty seats on the economy, but HD tv's and computers make watching a race from home an increasingly better option.
Not even close IMO. You could have a 100" HD television with the ultimate surround sound capabilities and it would never compare to the sights/sounds/atmosphere of a NASCAR race. No, not even close. You can blame empty seats on the economy, but HD tv's and computers make watching a race from home an increasingly better option.

Golf?! Who the hell follows golf?I should've been more clear—HD tv's, computers, multiple camera angles, pit reporters, etc...make watching a race from home an increasingly better option that it has been in the past. I'm not saying it's better than being at the track, but racing is one of those sports (like golf for example), where it's easier to follow all the action, storylines, etc...with a tv.
While I agree that nothing beats going to a race, your point is well taken . Whenever I went to a race , I recorded it at home so I could watch it later and see what happened . When you got some red necked babe in a low cut tank top sittin in front of you , you miss parts (of the race . I mean).I should've been more clear—HD tv's, computers, multiple camera angles, pit reporters, etc...make watching a race from home an increasingly better option that it has been in the past. My wife and most of my in-laws. It's about the only sport she'll watch. She likes that it's relatively quiet, except for that damned 'Get in the hole!' guy. He should be anchored in any water hazard in the southeast as gator bait.Golf?! Who the hell follows golf?
