Engine test hanging from the ceiling?

I've witnessed many engine dyno tests and chassis dyno tests as well as various ways teams do durability tests, but I've never seen this before. The picture is from the Kevin Harvick Budweiser commercial. It shows the engine hanging from the ceiling while running. I'm guessing it's something they made up for TV. Agree?

Has to be made-for-TV. In every back-of-the-shop I've been in, engine dyno rooms are VERY sturdy, self-contained rooms. After all, you never know when something will let go and scatter pieces.

That pic creates an unsafe situation for the crew.

It's not a dyno test at all, the engine most likely isn't hitting high RPM. I've seen it done before but never bothered to ask, don't know exactly what they are looking for but it's not HP numbers, something to do with how the engine twists and reacts to acceleration and deceleration or some **** like that? They are also able to look at the engine from all angles when it's hanging and running, again I don't know exactly what they are looking for though. Maybe they were bored and just wanted to because they could.

:sarcasm:WOW it's a Darn good thing there all wearing hearing protection :sarcasm:

My brother and I fired one up sitting on the shop floor.... ONE TIME.. filled the carb bowls with gas and hooked up some jumper cables...It did about four barrel rolls before it hit the end of the cables and shut off  OOOPS

I did it with an old Pontiac 400. It vibrated a bunch and rolled off the blocks, so I hit the kill before it could dry hump the bearings.

I have to admit I'd like to see that.

Of course. If it had a cable on all four corners, it would still be crazy to do. Seems like a psych job.

When I saw it done it was after the engine was started and was idling and there was another chain attached to the bottom then the floor. This was some local rednecks so they were probably just farting around seeing if it could be done or something stupid was about to happen. Like I said before, I didn't bother to ask, I just kept walking before someone said "Hey yall, watch this."
