Eric Robert Rudolph was arrested by a 21 year old rookie cop in North Carolina. Rudolph was one of the FBI's 10 most wanted. He is suspected of the bombing at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics that killed 1 person and injured more than 100 others. He also is suspected of bombing an abortion clinic and a gay bar. It is said that he has been living in the mountains of western North Carolina for several years and has been getting a lot of help from people who are sympathetic to his extreme views. He was rummaging for food behind a Save-A-Lot at 4:30 am. The rookie cop had no clue as to who he was arresting, but suspected him instead of being a candidate to break into a local business. Rudolph gave a fake name when captured, but after being grilled for 20 minutes by officers who suspected his true identity, he finally admitted who he really was. He also added that he was relieved to admit his true identity. The reports I'm reading make him out to be some kind of folk-hero in that area. They said there were two country songs written about him a t-shirts have been sold saying "Run Rudolph Run". Anybody know anything else about this guy?

When these reports first came out today I was like who in the world is he and what did he do!! And I still am wonderign who in the world he is, I have never heard of him before, I thought they got someone back in 96 when it happened

The national media would leave you with the impression that they got someone back in 1996. The police suspected a security guard whose name I can't recall this early in the morning. The media convicted him before any facts came out. He was cleared of any involvement a short time later, but that wasn't a big enough story to blast all over the news.

Yeah,we know a little about Eric Rudolph down here.He made a 'name' for himself by blowing up an abortion clinic in downtown Birmingham.I remember seeing the smoke really clear that day from where I work.Know the nurse that got maimed from the explosion.

The guys last name was Jewel,I am almost certain, that was tagged for the Olympic bombings,a security guard at the time.Rudolph was 'fitted' to this crime pretty much after the law dropped the ball.Doubtful that Rudolph was involved in this, but then I'm not a cop.

Anyway, the abortion clinic blast was what really made Rudolph a household name down here.An old Nissan pickup was found in NC that had been spotted outside the clinic just before the explosion. Thus the link to Carolina. The manhunt was pretty extensive for the first couple of years, even Bo Gritz(a self proclaimed survivalist/bounty hunter/among other things)searched the mountains for Eric.Rumor had it down here in the bible bet that a fringe group called the 'Army of God" was assisting Rudolph in his
flight from justice. At anyrate SEVERAL hundred law enforcement and civilian volunteers searched for about two solid years for the guy.The search was scaled back a few years ago and the general assumption was that Rudolph was dead. And yeah,he became something of a 'folk-hero'in some circles because of his anti-gay and anti-abortion views. And the way that he eluded capture for so long. The media is putting a different spin on it,but the law had pretty much given up on actively searching for Eric-----only his own careless mistake got him captured.

Should make an interesting movie one day but a really sad thing for Nurse Emily Lyons and Felicia Sanderson, wife of the slain police officer. And for all the others affected by this guy.

I feel they have caught the guy that did the bombings, but at the same time the evidence they had was pretty lame. They saw a truck like his near the bombing in Alabama which made him a suspect. Then when they search a storage shed of his they found nails similar to the ones used in the Atlanta bombing. I guess if you buy nails at a hardware store, you've got the only ones like that in the world.

Like I said before I think they have the man responsible, but he sure made the goverment RED FACED. Those of us around this area remember the hundreds of Goverment people looking for him for months apon months, over 200 FBI Agents not to count the many others involved. Also remember that in this area not to long ago a Goverment man was know as a Revenuer and not very well liked.

Maybe some day we will catch Bin Laden at a 7-11.

I think the security guard they tried to blame was named Richard Jewel if memory serves. Not really too important, but I just thought I would throw it out there.

I dont care what yall say about him, but he was a really smart man to survive in the woods like he did for so many years

He didn't do it all by himself, though. He had help.

He may be a smart man, but if he really killed someone at an abortion clinic it makes him no better than the people who work there. No worse in my opinion, but no better either. Now the olympic bombing, that just doesn't make any sense.

Rudolph is being held here in Birmingham at the present time.He will be tried for the clinic bombing here first. He entered a not guilty plea and has a local lawyer(Which surprised me)to represent him. From what I understand the actual evidence linking him to the clinic bombing is scarce, the Atlanta bombings even more so.
