ESPN, no more #8

What should have been done? Seems like they didn't have a choice to me. No sponsor, no ride.

If JR had gotten half the business they would have had more than enough $$$. I wonder if she ever regrets letting him go?

I imagine she does every day.

And I doubt she regrets it. He tried to force her into giving him the company where she offered to sell it to him at under market price and he refused. Now if he had been more patient maybe he could have purchased DEI. But he wanted his and he wanted it now and he wanted it for free.

but it should have been something inheritable, not bought...

Agreed. Look at what DEI has become. It is nothing more than a museum. Do to my limited number of posts to this forum, I am not allowed to post links but I did see a good article on this topic and it opens with this line that pretty much sums it up........

Will the Last Person to Leave DEI Please Turn Off the Lights

His Dad is the one who chose not to leave him half of the business. Their must of been a reason. :) She's probrably relieved he left. LOL
If it is like most wills everything is left to the surviving spouse with the intention that it will then go to the children. If D.E., Sr had known I really think he would have had the will stipulate that the sons would receive their share. Unfortunately most of us think we will never die and let things slide.

I had a neighbor about 10 years ago who died and left everything to his wife. I know for a fact that he intended for his kids to inherit after she died. Unfortunately she (the B****) basically abandoned the kids and she married another man.

Wow if you would of told me this even 2 years ago i would of thought your where joking, but DEI has gone down hill so much lately i would be suprised if they even have one car next year.

Might I inquire where this info comes from?

One important thing though: Earnhardt Ganassi Racing owns the #34 car driven by John Andretti and that car is in the top 35 in points.

I personally think Theresa should have "givin" JR half if that was what he asked for. Reason? 1/2 of DEI then would be worth more than 100% of DEI now. Sponsers would have stayed, no merger, etc

4m.net sucks! I left there along time ago. That place was out of controll and the mods let it all slide!

I agree!

I read several years ago that DE had written his will when JR was 15 and it was never redone. I would be willing to bet he would like to fix that mistake!

DEI will not survive another two years at its current level of decline.

If Jr. would have gotten half, he'd be losing his butt, too. He's lucky he bailed when he did.
DEI died when DE did.

4m use to be the best site for dirt track info. I lurk every once in a while.

Please remember, Big E left it all to Teresa in his will. It is hers to do with as she pleases.

Whatever DE meant to do, was left undone in his will.

Exactly.

I agree with putting things off, but the bottom line is, it was still DE's responsibility.

I have to say :bsflag: DE died in 2001. DEI did just fine until JR left last year. IMO.

JR brought in ten times more $$$ than any driver associated with DEI today. Hell! Ten times more then all of the drivers currently driving for DEI.

#1: Martin Truex, Jr. is overrated (sorry mike honcho)
#2: Montoya is their top performer
#3: Montoya should be the face of Earnhardt-Ganassi, not Truex

agreed on #3. If anybody on that team is going to be half as aggressive as big E was, Montoya's the one that will push that envelope off the cliff.

Once again, people are talking with their emotions rather than their heads. Just like it was the fault of Brooke Gordon that that family split, it's Teresa Earnhardt's fault that DEI is going down hill. I guess everyone has forgotten that in reality, there no longer is a Petty Enterprise, or an Evernham Racing. What, there must be some woman in the background to disrupt the organization before there is criticism. While it might have been wise for DEI to try and keep Jr. there in the stables, it wasn't as if they didn't try. Unfortunately, the sport has become a personality type sport in which driver with the best personalities, not ability win sponsor contracts. I think y'all put too much emphasis on Teresa being the ogre here. I'm not a fan of her's, cut she was the brains of DEI, even when ole Ironhead was alive. Remember, the man that so many loved and admired put her in control, not himself. You have to think about that fact and wonder why.

How many wins did DEI have after Dale Sr. died????

How much money did DEI have coming in before Junior left? Wasn't Budweiser the most lucrative contract in NASCAR? Junior had won a race every year except in 1999 and 2007.

How ever much money DEI had coming before Jr. left certainly wasn't from wins.
The most lucrative contract in NASCAR? Who knows? I didn't see the contract.
Winning one race a year is hardly a goal much less impressive.
Sure DEI may have lasted longer with Dale Jr. but without being competitive, was destined to fold.

I think we will just have to agree to disagree! JR left and DEI went to HELL. They merged, cut drivers wages and down sized. Then the sponsors took a stand. Winning once a year was not exactly the case.

Yes, Smoke we will agree to disagree...
Mug, I'm not a Jr. hater; I don't "hate" any driver.
I'm just saying that DEI was not doing anything positive anyway. Toward the end Jr. was not exactly competitive on a weekly basis.

If DE wanted the company to go to his children, he should have said so in his will.
From what I understand the will had been written in 1992 --- long before Junior showed any racing ability.

Yes, he should have said so in his will. However, people frequently don't put in their will what they want as they assume things will happen the way they want them to happen, right or wrong.

I find it hard to believe that D.E. Sr didn't want his children to have any part of DEI.

Don't forget Jr wasn't Dale's only child. All of this is water over the bridge but any way you cut it I don't see Jr being left half the company.

Smoke....It is just the Jr haters talking.

No question that DEI made a big mistake letting Jr. go.

How about this being Teresa haters? Seems that those fans of the sports most popular driver (for the time being) just can't put any blame on the youngster. I also believe that it was a mutual decision for Jr to leave DEI, so saying that DEI "let" him go is a misnomer.
