ESPN To Air 14 Races

Well that sucks. I got rid of cable at home. I'm not usually home anyway, but when I am it was nice to see them on ABC. Oh well, at least there is still Fox early in the season.

It had to be approved by NASCAR. I believe they had a clause with Disney stating a certain number of Chase races would be on broadcast tv.

Maybe re-arranging the start times voided that clause though

I really don't understand this move at all. I know that a majority of the US have cable or satellite but there are also those that don't. There are many areas out there that the only option is satellite and the monthly fee on that is unaffordable by some. Their eliminating some of their potential audience. How can that possibly be a good move?

I went back and looked at the ratings from last year and while ESPN's ratings were higher than ABC, ESPN wasn't up against the NFL. I think ESPN will suffer the same loss of viewers when they take over ABC's time slot this fall.

Man if cup moves to ESPN classic, even for one race, then I'm done with it. I refuse to pay extra for ESPN Classic to watch a damn race that just usually just gets me ticked off anyway.

Fox,ABC,ESPN,Anything's better than Tiresome Nitwit Television.
At least Bill ''Is my hair O.K " Weber was bounced .Don't bother looking it up,blah blah blah:bsflag:

Once College football season begins next year. A race this year I recall they shoved on ESPN classic because they where commited to showing college football.
Well college football is one of the most popular sports in existence.

I think this is a direct result of the Cup schedule being too long. Especially when 9 of 10 Chase races will be on ESPN, I think that's a sign that TV networks are more interested in showing football.

ABC/ESPN has screwed up more than once with their NASCAR coverage recently. Remember the 2008 Phoenix Chase race that went long, and ABC dumped the event to ESPN so they could air re-runs of AFV? Someone at ABC clearly has a stick up their ass about their dislike for NASCAR, and this latest move proves it.

I say eff them! If they'd rather show obnoxious gang-bangers playing football, then go for it. I'm sure CBS, NBC, or FOX would be more than happy to pick up the slack.

But ultimately the real solution is going to be to shorten the schedule and remove the redundant events. This will make each race more important, and improve overall ratings.
